Background: The clinical significance of kidney transplant protocol biopsies has been debated. We studied the frequency of borderline changes and T cell-mediated rejection (TCMR) in 1-y protocol biopsies in standard risk kidney transplant recipients.
Methods: Consecutive non-HLA-sensitized recipients of kidney transplants between 2006 and 2017, who underwent a protocol biopsy at 1 y in 2 national transplant centers were studied retrospectively (N = 1546).

Background: Urine cytology is useful to diagnose urinary neoplasms, whereas its role in the study of microhematuria is debatable. Usually, standard urinalysis (dipstick test and sediment examination with bright field microscope) detects the presence of microhematuria, but only urinalysis with phase-contrast microscopy (PCM) (dipstick test and sediment examination with PCM) allows the observation of red blood cell (RBC) morphology and identify their source. Usually glomerular diseases show RBCs with morphological alterations in high percentages, whereas on urologic bleeding, RBCs are rather homogeneous without morphological alterations.

Introduction: Febrile urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common childhood infection related to renal scarring and potentially long-term complications like chronic kidney disease. It would be of great benefit to find a correlation between easy-accessible factors in the acute phase of a febrile UTI and the development of renal scar formation and/or decreased renal function in order to identify children at risk of future complications.
Objective: The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with the development of decreased split renal function (DSRF) and/or permanent renal scar formation in children with febrile UTI.
