Polymeric carriers in the form of cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP) and alginate (ALG) microspheres were used for encapsulation of plasmid DNA for oral mucosal immunization. Access into the intestinal mucosa by pVAX1 eukaryotic expression plasmid vectors carrying gene-coding sequences, either for the cholera enterotoxin B subunit (ctxB) immunostimulatory antigen or the green fluorescent protein (GFP), delivered from both types of microsphere carriers were examined in orally immunized BALB/c mice. Demonstration of transgene protein expression and IgA antibody responses at local mucosal sites suggest immunological response to a potential oral DNA vaccine formulated within the microsphere carriers.

Such compounds are organogelators that produce a thermoreversible three-dimensional gel network that captures liquid organic solvents. Oleogels based on natural oils are attracting more attention due to their numerous advantages, such as their unsaturated fatty acid contents, ease of preparation, and safety of use.

A series of Ag-loaded and oxygen vacancy (OV)-containing BiOBr/BiOI (Ag/BiOBr/BiOI) photocatalysts with varying Ag loading levels were synthesized via the solvothermal-photocatalytic reduction method. As confirmed via optical, photoelectrochemical, and 4-chlorophenol photodegradation experiments, a low Ag loading level significantly enhanced the photogenerated charge carrier (PCC) transfer on the BiOBr/BiOI semiconductor surface and the performance of Ag/BiOBr/BiOI photocatalysts, which was attributable to the synergism between the effect of OVs and the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of Ag nanoparticles. Additionally, BiOBr/BiOI heterojunctions facilitated efficient visible-light harvesting and PCC separation.
