A two-dimensional polymer (2DP) based on the dimerization of anthraceno groups arranged in a triptycene motif is reported. A photoinduced polymerization is performed in the crystalline state and gives a lamellar 2DP via a crystal-to-crystal (but not single-crystal to single-crystal) transformation. Solvent-induced exfoliation provides monolayer sheets of the 2DP. The 2DP is considered to be a tiling, a mathematical approach that facilitates structural elucidation.

Flexible pressure sensors have shown significant application prospects in fields such as artificial intelligence and precision manufacturing. However, most flexible pressure sensors are often prepared using polymer materials and precise micronano processing techniques, which greatly limits the widespread application of sensors. Here, this work chooses textile material as the construction material for the sensor, and its latitude and longitude structure endows the sensor with a natural structure.

Optimal Method to Realize Quantitative Detection of 1D and 2D Nanoassemblies Based on AIE-Active Bolaamphiphilic Molecules.

Langmuir

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Eco-Environment-Related Polymer Materials, Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials of Gansu Province, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Northwest Normal University, Lanzhou, Gansu 730070, P. R. China.

Controllable transformation between the bolaamphiphilic molecule assemblies with different morphological nanostructures represents an exciting new direction for materials. However, there are still significant challenges for the quantitative detection and real-time monitoring of a controllable nanoself-assembly process due to insufficient measuring methods. Herein, we propose a new and effective fluorescence technology for realizing quantitative detection of a controllable conversion process of one-dimensional (1D)/two-dimensional (2D) nanoassemblies by introducing AIEgens as the fluorescence signal part.

Substantially Improving CO Permeability and CO/CH Selectivity of Matrimid Using Functionalized-TiCT.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19104, United States.

Mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) with favorable interfacial interactions between dispersed and continuous phases offer a promising approach to overcome the traditional trade-off between permeability and selectivity in membrane-based gas separation. In this study, we developed free-standing MMMs by embedding pristine and surface-modified TiCT MXenes into Matrimid 5218 polymer for efficient CO/CH separation. Two-dimensional TiCT with adjustable surface terminations provided control over these critical interfacial interactions.

Graphene and its derivatives have been widely used as reinforcing nanofillers for high-performance polymer nanocomposites. The effectiveness of the reinforcement largely depends on the properties of the nanofiller-matrix interface, which can be represented by the interfacial shear strength (IFSS). This work systematically investigates IFSS enhancements for polyethylene (PE) nanocomposites reinforced by graphene origami (GOri) through molecular dynamics pull-out simulations.

Enhanced Protein Immobilization Capacity through Grafting of Poly(sodium methacrylate) onto Magnetic Bead Surface.

Langmuir

January 2025

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Jiangsu Province Hi-Tech Key Laboratory for Biomedical Research, Southeast University, Nanjing, Jiangsu 211189, P. R. China.

This study aims to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) by increasing the amount of protein immobilized on the surface of the magnetic bead (MB). Proteins are macromolecules with three-dimensional structures, and merely increasing the density of functional groups on the two-dimensional surface of the MB cannot significantly enhance protein immobilization. Therefore, we grafted spatially extended functional polymer to not only increase the density of functional groups on the MB surface but also expand their distribution in three-dimensional space, ultimately increasing protein immobilization.
