The fabrication and properties of n-ZnO nanowires/p-CuO coaxial heterojunction (CH) with a photoresist (PR) blocking layer are reported. In our study, c-plane wurtzite ZnO nanowires were grown by aqueous chemical method, and monoclinic CuO (111) was then coated on the ZnO nanowires by electrochemical deposition to form CH. To improve the device performance, a PR layer was inserted between the ZnO buffer layer and the CuO film to serve as a blocking layer to block the leakage current. Structural investigations of the CH indicate that the sample has good crystalline quality. It was found that our refined structure possesses a better rectifying ratio and smaller reverse leakage current. As there is a large on/off ratio between light on and off and the major light response is centered at around 424 nm, the experimental results suggest that the PR-inserted ZnO/CuO CH can be used as a good narrow-band blue light detector.

Metal oxide core-shell fibrous nanostructures are promising gas-sensitive materials for the detection of a wide variety of both reducing and oxidizing gases. In these structures, two dissimilar materials with different work functions are brought into contact to form a coaxial heterojunction. The influence of the shell material on the transportation of the electric charge carriers along these structures is still not very well understood.

Despite the high potential of one-dimensional (1D) donor-acceptor (D-A) coaxial nanostructures in bulk-heterojunction solar cell applications, the preparation of such 1D nanostructures using π-conjugated polymers has remained elusive. Herein, we demonstrate the first example of D-A semiconducting nanoribbons based on fully conjugated block copolymers (BCPs) prepared in a highly efficient procedure with controllable width and length via living crystallization-driven self-assembly (CDSA). Initially, Suzuki-Miyaura catalyst-transfer polymerization was employed to successfully synthesize BCPs containing two types of acceptor shells as the first block, followed by a donor poly(3-propylthiophene) core as the second block.

Key Laboratory for the Physics and Chemistry of Nanodevices and Center for Carbon-based Electronics, School of Electronics, Peking University, Beijing, 100871, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Semiconducting carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are excellent materials for building ultra-small transistors, but their stable doping is challenging due to their perfect carbon structure.
  • A new inner doping technique uses halide perovskites to create a coaxial heterojunction, resulting in a stable n-type transistor suitable for advanced electronics.
  • The study achieves a novel quasi-broken-gap tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) that shows impressive performance, including a low subthreshold swing and significant on/off current ratio, indicating potential for efficient integrated circuits.

Exploration of multifunctional integrated catalysts is of great significance for photocatalysis toward practical application. Herein, a 1D confined nanoreactor with a heterogeneous core-shell structure is designed for synergies of efficient catalysis and temperature monitoring by custom encapsulation of Z-scheme heterojunction CuS quantum dots/BiVO (CuS QDs/BiVO) and YOS-Er, Yb. The dispersed active sites created by the QDs with high surface energy improve the mass transfer efficiency, and the efficient electron transport channels at the heterogeneous interface extend the carrier lifetime, which endows the nanoreactor with excellent catalytic performance.
