Despite mounting evidence of a robust relation between discrimination and poor pain outcomes in people of color (POC) with chronic pain, little is known about everyday discrimination's role in increasing the risk of opioid misuse and its potential interactive effects. This study aimed to evaluate the potential moderating effect of everyday discrimination on the relationship between chronic pain severity and the risk of opioid misuse among POC with chronic pain. Everyday discrimination was assessed using the 9-item Everyday Discrimination Scale (EDS), while the risk of opioid misuse was measured with the 14-item Screener and Opioid Assessment for Patients with Pain (SOAPP).

Pyriproxyfen, villain or good guy? A brief review.

Pyriproxyfen (PPF) acts as a juvenile growth regulator, interfering with normal metamorphosis and blocking the development of insects into adulthood. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) considers the use of PPF at a concentration of 0.01 mg/L as unlikely to pose health risks, recent studies have unveiled potential risks associated with PPF exposure to non-target organisms.

Torsion-Vibration Interactions in S and S Phenylsilane.

J Phys Chem A

January 2025

College of Science and Engineering, Flinders University, GPO Box 2100, Adelaide, SA 5001, Australia.

We report the results of a study of the interaction between torsion and the low frequency out-of-plane silyl wag vibration in the ground, S, and excited, S, electronic states of phenylsilane. These studies follow the observation of interactions between methyl torsion and the out-of-plane methyl wagging vibration in toluene, several fluoro-substituted toluenes and -methylpyrrole. The interaction leads to various spectroscopic constants becoming divorced from their usual physical meaning.

The aberrant aggregation of the human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) is a hallmark of type II diabetes. LL37, the only cathelicidin host-defense peptide in humans, plays essential roles in antimicrobial and immunomodulatory activities. Mounting evidence indicates that LL37 can inhibit the amyloid aggregation of hIAPP, suggesting possible interplays between infections and amyloid diseases while the mechanism remains unclear.

Soil permeability shaping ARGs patterns by affecting soil available nutrients in paddy fields.

Environ Pollut

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Integrated Regulation and Resource Development on Shallow Lakes, Ministry of Education, College of Environment, Hohai University, Nanjing, Jiangsu 210098, P.R. China.

Though the evidence for soil property could influence the antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) profiles is mounting, studies regarding the effect of soil permeability on soil ARGs patterns are still ignored. This study investigated the dynamic distribution of ARGs in paddy fields with different soil permeability over various rice growing stages, as well as revealed the abiotic and biotic factors that shaping ARGs profiles. Results indicate that soil with high permeability improved the ARGs abundance through elevating the available nutrients in the soil.
