Sub-acute thyroiditis or De Quervain's thyroiditis is a viral, inflammatory disease which causes the serum release of thyroidal hormones and hyperthyroidism. The pathogenesis of thyroid follicle damage is unclear because the exclusive viral action or a concomitant autoimmune component, determined by the lymphoid infiltrate remain to be assessed. We describe the case of a patient under immunosuppressive treatment, who developed sub-acute thyroiditis with hormone release and hyperthyroidism. The patient, while was under immunosuppressive treatment for kidney transplant, exhibited a clinical picture and hormonal profile of hyperthyroidism. Thyroid scintiscan exhibited an extremely low uptake. Fine-needle cytologic diagnosis was granulomatous sub-acute thyroiditis (De Quervain's thyroiditis). This case suggests the primary or even exclusive role of the viral infection in hormone release and hyperthyroidism in sub-acute thyroiditis, excluding an autoimmune component.

The aim of this research was to evaluate the interaction effects of ammonia-N levels and salinity on hematological and serum biochemical parameters in Nile tilapia (). The fish were randomly divided into 12 treatments including the levels of salinity (0, 4, 8 and 12 ppt) and 0, 50% of LC50-96 h of ammonia-N and 30% of LC50-96 h of ammonia-N in a factorial design (4 salinity levels x 3 ammonia levels). Hemoglobin value in all treatments, except for salinity treatments, namely 2, 3, 4, showed a significant decrease than the control (0 ppt and no poisoning).

Purpose: In light of the growing concern over the possible link between SARS-CoV2 infection and autoimmune diseases, we conducted a review to investigate the impact of the pandemic outbreak on thyroid diseases.
Methods: We carried out a narrative review of all pediatric cases described in the literature, mainly focusing on the possible association of COVID-19 with the incidence of autoimmune and post-infective thyroid diseases (namely Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (HT), Grave's Disease (GD) and Sub-Acute Thyroiditis (SAT)). We also felt it was necessary to provide a brief review of Non-thyroidal Illness Syndrome (NTIS) and Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) because of their overlap with thyroiditis.

Introduction: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which not only produces respiratory symptoms but is known to involve almost every system, and its neuroinvasive properties have been well demonstrated throughout the pandemic. Also, to combat the pandemic, there was rapid development and induction of various vaccination drives, following which many adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) have been reported, which include neurological complications as well.
Method: We present a series of three cases, post vaccination, with and without a history of COVID illness that showed remarkably similar findings on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
