The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is a powerful approach toward new energy technology, especially for portable electronics. A theoretical model for the sliding-mode TENG is presented in this work. The finite element method was utilized to characterize the distributions of electric potential, electric field, and charges on the metal electrodes of the TENG. Based on the FEM calculation, the semi-analytical results from the interpolation method and the analytical V-Q-x relationship are built to study the sliding-mode TENG. The analytical V-Q-x equation is validated through comparison with the semi-analytical results. Furthermore, based on the analytical V-Q-x equation, dynamic output performance of sliding-mode TENG is calculated with arbitrary load resistance, and good agreement with experimental data is achieved. The theory presented here is a milestone work for in-depth understanding of the working mechanism of the sliding-mode TENG, and provides a theoretical basis for further enhancement of the sliding-mode TENG for both energy scavenging and self-powered sensor applications.

The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has emerged as a promising technology for efficiently converting ambient mechanical energy into electrical energy. Among various designs, the disk-based rotational TENG has demonstrated significant potential, as it can continuously harvest energy in a sliding mode via a grating mechanism. However, horizontal mechanical energy is more common than rotational energy in many practical applications.

An advanced energy autonomous system that simultaneously harnesses and stores energy on the same platform offers exciting opportunities for the near-future self-powered miniature electronics. However, achieving optimal synchronization between the power output of an energy harvester and the storage unit or integrating it seamlessly with real-time microelectronics to build a highly efficient energy autonomous system remains challenging. Herein, a unique bimetallic layered double hydroxide (LDH) based tribo-positive layer is introduced for a high-voltage sliding triboelectric nanogenerator (S-TENG) with an output voltage of ≈1485 V and power output of 250 µW, respectively.

The long-term durability of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) remains a main challenge for practical applications because of inevitable material abrasion and wear, especially for sliding TENGs. Herein, an inorganic triboelectric pair composed of diamond-like carbon (DLC) and glass with excellent durability and triboelectric output for sliding-mode TENGs is proposed. This triboelectric pair possesses a low coefficient of friction and little abrasion and accordingly excellent durability (>500 000 cycles).

To solve the position control problem of the induction motor with parameter perturbations, load disturbances, and modeling errors, a predefined-time position tracking optimization control method with prescribed performance is proposed. In practice, the rotor flux linkage of the induction motor can't be measured, and a predefined-time sliding mode observer (PTSMO) is applied to accurately estimate it. Additionally, predefined-time disturbance observers (PTDOs) are employed to identify the uncertainties in the motor system.

For several decades, the development of potential flexible electronics, such as electronic skin, wearable technology, environmental monitoring systems, and the internet of Things network, has been emphasized. In this context, piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) and triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are highly regarded due to their simple design, high output performance, and cost-effectiveness. On a smaller scale, self-powered sensor research and development based on piezo-triboelectric hybrid nanogenerators have lately become more popular.
