A 50-year-old female presented with a 10-day history of progressive swelling and pain in the left lower extremity, ultimately diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and May-Thurner Syndrome (MTS). Initial ultrasound indicated thrombosis involving the left external iliac, femoral, and popliteal veins, among others. Blood tests revealed normocytic anemia, but thrombophilia screening and other blood markers were normal.

Purpose Owing to the shortage of surgeons and the decrease in medical staff in regional medical care, reducing unnecessary tests can limit the burden on the staff. In this study, we aimed to examine the predictors of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), such as D-dimer levels in patients who underwent surgery at our hospital, and determine the feasibility of screening in these patients. Knowledge of D-dimer levels can indicate the risk of DVT in patients about to undergo surgery.

Treatment of ATR consists of both conservative and surgical options, with the traditional belief being that surgical intervention reduces the risk of re-rupture. However, with the introduction of physiotherapy-led functional rehabilitation strategies with early mobilization, it has been shown that re-rupture rates are equal among surgical and non-surgical patients.
