Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Potential of Endophytic Aspergillus versicolor Isolate from the Medicinal Plant Plectranthus amboinicus.

Curr Microbiol

January 2025

Department of Microbiology and Botany, School of Sciences, J. C. Road, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Bangalore, Karnataka, 560027, India.

Endophytic fungi are non-pathogenic organisms that colonise healthy plant tissues asymptomatically. Endophytes derived from medicinal plants are sources for identifying natural products and bioactive compounds with potential uses for industry, medicine, agriculture, and related sectors. In the present study, ethyl acetate crude extracts of four endophytic fungal isolates (CALF1, CALF4, and CASF1) from the medicinal plant Plectranthus amboinicus showed potent antimicrobial activity against the test pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus subtilis using disc diffusion assays.

Unlabelled: This study utilized deep learning for bone mineral density (BMD) prediction and classification using biplanar X-ray radiography (BPX) images from Huashan Hospital Medical Checkup Center. Results showed high accuracy and strong correlation with quantitative computed tomography (QCT) results. The proposed models offer potential for screening patients at a high risk of osteoporosis and reducing unnecessary radiation and costs.

SMARCA4 Deficiency in Lung Cancer: From Signaling Pathway to Potential Therapeutic Targets.

Genes Chromosomes Cancer

January 2025

Department of Oncology, Xiangyang No. 1 People's Hospital, Hubei University of Medicine, Xiangyang, China.

SMARCA4-deficient lung cancer, including thoracic SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated tumors and SMARCA4-deficient nonsmall-cell lung carcinomas, is a rare and aggressive disease characterized by rapid progression and poor prognosis. This cancer was identified as a distinct entity with specific morphologic and molecular features in the 2021 WHO Classification of Thoracic Tumors. Molecular alterations in SMARCA4 are specific to this type of lung cancer.

To study the impact of differing specific pathogen-free gut microbiomes (GMs) on a murine model of inflammatory bowel disease, selected GMs were transferred using embryo transfer (ET), cross-fostering (CF), and co-housing (CH). Prior work showed that the GM transfer method and the microbial composition of donor and recipient GMs can influence microbial colonization and disease phenotypes in dextran sodium sulfate-induced colitis. When a low richness GM was transferred to a recipient with a high richness GM via CH, the donor GM failed to successfully colonize, and a more severe disease phenotype resulted when compared to ET or CF, where colonization was successful.

Objective: To assess performance of an algorithm for automated grading of surgery-related adverse events (AEs) according to Clavien-Dindo (C-D) classification.

Summary Background Data: Surgery-related AEs are common, lead to increased morbidity for patients, and raise healthcare costs. Resource-intensive manual chart review is still standard and to our knowledge algorithms using electronic health record (EHR) data to grade AEs according to C-D classification have not been explored.
