Recent advances in cancer therapy have resulted in an increased number of long-term cancer survivors. Infertility, however, might be the consequence of an efficient cancer treatment. For young patients affected by cancer accesses to the partly established and partly still experimental options to preserve fertility are crucial. As decisions on fertility preservation have to be made in the short time period after diagnosis and before onset of cancer treatment, counselling is challenging. Based on an overview on technical options to preserve fertility, the ethical dilemma will be discussed and the nowadays available study results concerning the psychological dimension and the requirements for counselling will be presented. Due to the complexity of the topic a multidisciplinary approach considering experts' recommendations is indispensable.

Background: The oocyte retrieval is a critical step in assisted reproductive technologies, including in vitro fertilization and fertility preservation. Despite evolving techniques, the optimal aspiration pressure during retrieval remains debatable, with limited in vivo human studies. Existing studies, primarily in vitro and on animals, suggest that inappropriate aspiration pressures can impair oocyte quality.

Chromatin remodeling, which involves the histone-to-protamine exchange process during spermiogenesis, is crucial for sperm nuclear condensation and male fertility. However, the key regulators and underlying molecular mechanisms involved in this process remain largely unexplored. In this study, we discovered that deficiency in the family with sequence similarity 170 member A (Fam170a) led to abnormal sperm nuclear morphology and male infertility in mice, mirroring the observation of very low Fam170a transcription levels in sperm of infertile men with teratozoospermia.

Background: In infertility clinics, long-time preserving high-quality spermatozoa is a challenging problem.
Objective: The present study aimed to prolong preserving of the human spermatozoa by adding pentoxifylline (PT) and L-carnitine (LC) without using high-cost freezing techniques.
Materials And Methods: In this experimental study, semen samples of 26 normozoospermia men aged between 28-34 yr, were firstly prepared using the swim-up technique, and each sample was divided into the following 3 aliquots: untreated control group, the LC, and PT-treated groups.

The incidence of melanoma among young adults has risen, yet mortality has declined annually since the introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). The utilization of peri-operative ICI has significantly altered the treatment landscape in melanoma, with PD-1 inhibitors showing promising efficacy in improving relapse-free survival rates in high-risk stage II-III disease. With the increasing use of ICI, secondary concerns have emerged regarding the impact of cancer drugs on fertility and reproductive health among women of childbearing potential, especially in early-stage cancer settings.

Sperm cryopreservation provides patients undergoing oncological, surgical, or infertility treatments the opportunity to conceive their own children, using assisted reproductive technologies. However, the freezing-thawing process can negatively influence both the quantity and the quality of spermatozoa, mainly due to an excessive production of reactive oxygen species and/or an impaired antioxidant defense system in sperm. Aromatic and medicinal plants synthesize essential oils with antioxidant proprieties as a part of their ecological adaptation to environmental stress, thanks to their rich bioactive phytochemical components.
