Extremely long, electrically conductive, ductile, free-standing nanosheets of water-stabilized KxCoO2·yH2O are synthesized using the sol-gel and electric-field induced kinetic-demixing (SGKD) process. Room temperature in-plane resistivity of the KxCoO2·yH2O nanosheets is less than ~4.7 mΩ·cm, which corresponds to one of the lowest resistivity values reported for metal oxide nanosheets. The synthesis produces tens of thousands of very high aspect ratio (50,000:50,000:1 = length/width/thickness), millimeter length nanosheets stacked into a macro-scale pellet. Free-standing nanosheets up to ~50 μm long are readily delaminated from the stacked nanosheets. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) studies of the free-standing nanosheets indicate that the delaminated pieces consist of individual nanosheet crystals that are turbostratically stacked. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies confirm that the nanosheets are stacked in perfect registry along their c-axis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) based statistical analysis show that the average thickness of the nanosheets is ~13 nm. The nanosheets show ductility with a bending radius as small as ~5 nm.

The structural stability of two-dimensional (2D) phases derived from bulk selenium (Se) is intrinsically rooted in the multivalent nature of the material. The emergence of 2D Se, as its morphology evolves from 1D to 2D, was initially inspired by theoretical predictions of various quasi-stable structural phases of 2D Se. Here, we report a facile liquid-phase synthesis of free-standing few-layer selenium nanosheets (SeNS) employing a simple magnetic stirring of their bulk counterpart in -methyl pyrrolidone (NMP).

The practical applications of lithium sulfur batteries (LSBs) are hindered by notorious shuttle effect and sluggish conversion kinetics of intermediate polysulfides. Herein, MoC-Co heterogeneous particles decorated two-dimensional (2D) carbon nanosheets grown on hollow carbon microtubes (CCC@MCC) are synthesized. Three-dimensional (3D) carbon framework with MoC-Co heterogeneous particles combines the conductivity, adsorption and catalysis, effectively trapping and accelerating the conversion of polysulfides.

Neodymium tritelluride is a layered van der Waals material, with correlated electronic properties including high electronic mobility, charge density waves, and antiferromagnetism. We developed a solution synthesis method to form free-standing nanosheets of NdTe, with nanosheet lateral dimensions of 200-400 nm. The morphology of the nanosheet was influenced by the neodymium precursor.
