A straight synthetic route to fabricate hybrid nanocomposite films of well-dispersed CdS nanocrystals (NCs) in poly[2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] (MEH-PPV) is reported. A soluble cadmium complex [Cd(SBz)2]2·MI, obtained by incorporating a Lewis base (1-methylimidazole, MI) on the cadmium bis(benzyl)thiol, is used as starting reagent in an in situ thermolytic process. CdS NCs with spherical shape nucleate and grow well below 200°C in a relatively short time (30 min). Photoluminescence spectroscopy measurements performed on CdS/MEH-PPV nanocomposites show that CdS photoluminescence peaks are totally quenched inside MEH-PPV, if compared to CdS/PMMA nanocomposites, as expected due to overlapping of the polymer absorption and CdS emission spectra. The CdS NCs are well-dispersed in size and homogeneously distributed within MEH-PPV matrix as proved by transmission electron microscopy. Nanocomposites with different precursor/polymer weight ratios were prepared in the range from 1:4 to 4:1. Highly dense materials, without NCs clustering, were obtained for a weight/weight ratio of 2:3 between precursor and polymer, making these nanocomposites particularly suitable for optoelectronic and solar energy conversion applications.

Tetracycline (TC) is one of the most important therapeutic drugs that is widely used in hospitals. However, its harmful effects on human health and various ecosystems cannot be ignored. Owing to its poor metabolic activity and low biodegradability, TC commonly discharges as the parent compound and accumulates readily in sludges and soils by precipitation from wastewater, which can induce the evolution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria; therefore, it has been listed as one of the new pollutants with potential ecotoxicological risk.

Precisely tuning how and where a reaction occurs in a one-step selective system is important but challenging owing to the similar electronic environments in multiple active sites. In this work, highly selective and effective reaction sites were obtained by generating copper coordination polymers (Cu-CP) of a range of sizes and morphologies, from bulk solid crystals () to uniform nanosphere structures (), by controlling the amount of surfactant hexadecyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The results indicated that the morphology and size of the uniform nanosphere structures were affected by the proportion of CTAB; uniform distribution of nanosphere structures was achieved with a premade building carrier when the content of CTAB was 0.

Accurately controlling and achieving selective reactivity at difficult-to-access reaction sites in organic molecules is challenging owing to the similar local and electronic environments of multiple reaction sites. In this work, we regulated multiple reaction sites in a highly selective and active manner using cobalt coordination polymers (Co-CP) 1 and 1a with various particle sizes and morphologies ranging from large granular to ordered hollow hemispheres by introducing sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a surfactant. The size and morphology of the catalysts could be tuned by controlling the amount of SDS.

In this work, ultraviolet irradiation was employed to assist in the preparation of a novel photocatalyst composite in the form of carbon dots/zeolite-4A/TiO, using coal tailings as the source of silicon-aluminum and carbon. The composite was designed for the degradation of methylene blue under 500 W of UV light irradiation. Zeolite-4A was used as a support for the well-dispersed carbon dots and TiO nanoparticles.
