Published: September 2013

Chaetochromones A (1) and B (2), two novel polyketides, were isolated from the crude extract of fungus Chaetomium indicum (CBS.860.68) together with three known analogues PI-3(3), PI-4 (4) and SB236050 (5). The structures of these compounds were determined by HRESI-MS and NMR experiments. Chaetochromones A (1) and B (2) are a member of the polyketides family, which might originate from a similar biogenetic pathway as the known compounds PI-3 (3), PI-4 (4) and SB236050 (5). The biological activities of these secondary metabolites were evaluated against eight plant pathogens, including Alternaria alternata, Ilyonectria radicicola, Trichoderma viride pers, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium verticillioide, Irpex lacteus (Fr.), Poria placenta (Fr.) Cooke and Coriolus versicolor (L.) Quél. Compound 1 displayed moderate inhibitory rate (>60%) against the brown rot fungus Poria placenta (Fr.) Cooke, which causes significant wood decay. In addition, the cytotoxic activities against three cancer cell lines A549, MDA-MB-231, PANC-1 were also tested, without any inhibitory activities being detected.

Conservation tillage and fertilization are widely adopted in agricultural systems to enhance soil fertility and influence fungal communities, thereby improving agroecosystems. However, the effects of no-tillage combined with manure on grain yield, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), soil fertility, and rhizosphere fungal communities remain poorly understood, particularly in rainfed wheat fields on the Loess Plateau. A 15-year field experiment was conducted at the Niujiawa Experimental Farm of the Cotton Research Institute, Shanxi Agricultural University.

Antibacterial and Cytotoxic Methylthioether-Containing Cytochalasins from AS-506, an Endozoic Fungus Associated with Deep-Sea Sponge of Magellan Seamounts.

J Agric Food Chem

January 2025

CAS and Shandong Province Key Laboratory of Experimental Marine Biology, Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanhai Road 7, Qingdao 266071, China.

Ten cytochalasin derivatives, including six new methylthioether-containing chaetoglobosins (thiochaetoglobosins A-F, ), a new related congener (18-nor-prochaetoglobosin II, ), and three known unsulfured counterparts (), were isolated and identified from AS-506, an endozoic fungus isolated from a deep-sea sponge, which was collected from Magellan Seamounts in the Western Pacific Ocean. Their structures were determined by extensive interpretation of the spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic data, as well as by ECD calculations. Structurally, thiochaetoglobosins A-F () represent the first examples of chaetoglobosin derivatives containing a methylthioether group in the molecules, while 18-nor-prochaetoglobosin II () is the first 18-nor-chaetoglobosin derivative.

December 2024

Hubei Key Laboratory of Natural Medicinal Chemistry and Resource Evaluation, School of Pharmacy, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430030, People's Republic of China.

Under the guidance of HPLC-DAD analysis, ten new chromones featuring a rare [6,6]-spiroketal moiety, namely chaetovirexylariones A-J (-), together with two known congeners (-), were isolated from coculture of the endophytic fungi and , from the rhizome of the medicinal plant Roxb. Their structures were elucidated via a combination of NMR and HRESIMS data, and the absolute configurations of - were determined by the chemical conversion and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (Cu Kα) experiments, as well as the comparison of the experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data. Compound is the first report as a racemate of this type of natural product.

Three previously undescribed compounds including 2',3'-dihydroxy-4,5',4″-trimethoxy--terphenyl (), 5-methoxyhydroperoxyco-chliodinol (), and 5-(3',3'-dimethylallyl)indole-3-oxoacetic acid (), along with fifteen known compounds ( - and ), were isolated from the endophytic fungus, BCC71876. The chemical structures were determined by NMR spectral information as well as the comparison with those closely related compounds reported in the literature. The compounds isolated were evaluated for biological properties including antimalarial, anti-TB, anti-plant pathogenic fungal, antibacterial, and cytotoxicity.

J Fungi (Basel)

November 2024

MARA Key Laboratory of Surveillance and Management for Plant Quarantine Pests, Department of Plant Biosecurity, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100193, China.

Cover crops, typically planted during off-seasons and requiring less agronomic manipulation, may provide abundant fungal resources. Certain species of could serve as potential agents for controlling plant diseases and developing bioorganic fertilizers. Eight species from five genera of were identified from healthy and , two major cover crops, through multigene phylogenetic analysis, morphological identification, and pairwise homoplasy index testing.
