Chaetochromones A (1) and B (2), two novel polyketides, were isolated from the crude extract of fungus Chaetomium indicum (CBS.860.68) together with three known analogues PI-3(3), PI-4 (4) and SB236050 (5). The structures of these compounds were determined by HRESI-MS and NMR experiments. Chaetochromones A (1) and B (2) are a member of the polyketides family, which might originate from a similar biogenetic pathway as the known compounds PI-3 (3), PI-4 (4) and SB236050 (5). The biological activities of these secondary metabolites were evaluated against eight plant pathogens, including Alternaria alternata, Ilyonectria radicicola, Trichoderma viride pers, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium verticillioide, Irpex lacteus (Fr.), Poria placenta (Fr.) Cooke and Coriolus versicolor (L.) Quél. Compound 1 displayed moderate inhibitory rate (>60%) against the brown rot fungus Poria placenta (Fr.) Cooke, which causes significant wood decay. In addition, the cytotoxic activities against three cancer cell lines A549, MDA-MB-231, PANC-1 were also tested, without any inhibitory activities being detected.

Ten cytochalasin derivatives, including six new methylthioether-containing chaetoglobosins (thiochaetoglobosins A-F, ), a new related congener (18-nor-prochaetoglobosin II, ), and three known unsulfured counterparts (), were isolated and identified from AS-506, an endozoic fungus isolated from a deep-sea sponge, which was collected from Magellan Seamounts in the Western Pacific Ocean. Their structures were determined by extensive interpretation of the spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic data, as well as by ECD calculations. Structurally, thiochaetoglobosins A-F () represent the first examples of chaetoglobosin derivatives containing a methylthioether group in the molecules, while 18-nor-prochaetoglobosin II () is the first 18-nor-chaetoglobosin derivative.

Under the guidance of HPLC-DAD analysis, ten new chromones featuring a rare [6,6]-spiroketal moiety, namely chaetovirexylariones A-J (-), together with two known congeners (-), were isolated from coculture of the endophytic fungi and , from the rhizome of the medicinal plant Roxb. Their structures were elucidated via a combination of NMR and HRESIMS data, and the absolute configurations of - were determined by the chemical conversion and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (Cu Kα) experiments, as well as the comparison of the experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data. Compound is the first report as a racemate of this type of natural product.

The chemical structures were determined by NMR spectral information as well as the comparison with those closely related compounds reported in the literature. The compounds isolated were evaluated for biological properties including antimalarial, anti-TB, anti-plant pathogenic fungal, antibacterial, and cytotoxicity.
