We present electronic structure and transport calculations for hydrogen and lithium chains, using density functional theory and scattering theory on the Green's function level, to systematically study impurity effects on the transmission coefficient. To this end we address various impurity configurations. Tight-binding results allow us to interpret our the findings. We analyze under which circumstances impurities lead to level splitting and/or can be used to switch between metallic and insulating states. We also address the effects of strongly electronegative impurities.

Peptide , a C18 fatty acid-modified single-chain relaxin analogue, was recently identified as a potent, selective, and long-lasting relaxin family peptide receptor 1 (RXFP1) agonist. Further advanced pharmacokinetic profiling of this compound highlighted elevated levels of oxidative metabolism occurring in dogs and mini pigs but only marginally in rats. This study aimed to design long-lasting relaxin analogues with increased stability against metabolic oxidation while securing subnanomolar RXFP1 potency.

Cardiovascular disease affects millions of people worldwide and often presents with other conditions including metabolic, renal and neurological disorders. A variety of secreted factors from multiple organs/tissues (proteins, nucleic acids and lipids) have been implicated in facilitating organ cross-talk that may contribute to the development of multimorbidity. Secreted proteins have received the most attention, with the greatest body of research related to factors released from adipose tissue (adipokines), followed by skeletal muscle (myokines).

Introduction: With the advancement of disease-modifying therapies for Alzheimer's disease (AD), validating plasma biomarkers against cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and positron emission tomography (PET) standards is crucial in both research and real-world settings.

Methods: We measured plasma phosphorylated tau (p-tau)217, p-tau181, amyloid beta (Aβ)1-40, Aβ1-42, and neurofilament light chain in research and real-world cohorts. Participants were categorized by brain amyloid status using US Food and Drug Administration/European Medicines Agency-approved CSF or PET methods.

Osteoarthritis (OA) remains a significant clinical challenge, with current treatments like sodium hyaluronate injections offering limited efficacy due to suboptimal lubrication and rapid degradation. In this study, we explored an advanced solution to these issues by investigating the colubrication mechanism of a composite biolubricant consisting of 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine-modified chitosan (CS-MPC) and chondroitin sulfate-modified chitosan nanoparticles (CS-ChS NPs) using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Results show that the composite lubricant outperforms individual CS-MPC or CS-ChS NPs, exhibiting a lower coefficient of friction (COF) and a superior load-bearing capacity.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs), as a class of noncoding RNA molecules with a circular structure exhibit high stability and spatiotemporal-specific expression, making them ideal cancer biomarkers for liquid biopsy. Herein, a new photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor for a highly sensitive circRNA assay in the whole blood of lung cancer patients was designed based on CRISPR/Cas13a-programmed Cu nanoclusters (Cu NCs) and a -scheme covalent organic framework/silver sulfide (T-COF/AgS) composite. This -scheme T-COF/AgS composite accelerates electron transfer and produces an excellent initial photocurrent.
