Two structures of the Tutton salt family, originally reported with composition [Cu(H2O)6](ClO4)2(H2O)2 and Na2Cu(SO4)2(H2O)6, have been redetermined based on the original intensity data. With respect to the original [Cu(H2O)6](ClO4)2(H2O)2 model, the perchlorate anion and the noncoordinating water molecule are replaced by a sulfate anion and an ammonium cation. With respect to the original Na2Cu(SO4)2(H2O)6 model, the sodium site is replaced by a mixed-occupancy potassium/ammonium site. The resulting revised formulae are (NH4)2Cu(SO4)2(H2O)6 [diammonium hexaaquacopper(II) disulfate] and [(NH4)1.176K0.824]Cu(SO4)2(H2O)6, respectively. In both cases, the redetermination led to chemically more sensible structure models, accompanied by lower reliability factors. Three other reported structures with formula types [M(H2O)6](ClO4)2(H2O)2 or Na2M(SO4)2(H2O)6 (M is a first row transition metal) have also been re-examined. From crystal-chemical considerations, their existence is likewise questioned. It is shown that the deposition of structure factors is beneficial for detailed re-examinations of problematic structure models.

Voltage-gated potassium conductances [Formula: see text] play a critical role not only in normal neural function, but also in many neurological disorders and related therapeutic interventions. In particular, in an important animal model of epileptic seizures, 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) administration is thought to induce seizures by reducing [Formula: see text] in cortex and other brain areas. Interestingly, 4-AP has also been useful in the treatment of neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and spinal cord injury, where it is thought to improve action potential propagation in axonal fibers.

The aim of this research was to evaluate changes in the milk metabolome of dairy cows fed different carbohydrate types from silages and concentrates, with special focus on purines and pyrimidines, likely associated with the microbial activity in the rumen. Furthermore, the relationship between the milk fatty acids and pyrimidine and purine metabolism retrieved in milk was investigated for potential correlations between these 2 groups of potential milk biomarkers. Twenty-four lactating dairy cows were used in a crossover design, where each cow received 2 of 4 diets.

This research investigates the potential of utilizing types of construction waste as partial cement replacements within concrete formulations. Notably, granodiorite and ceramic powders were introduced at varying substitution ratios. The impact of these waste materials on the compressive strength and radiation shielding effectiveness of traditional concrete was evaluated under both ambient and elevated temperature conditions.

The ICH E9 addendum on estimands in clinical trials provides a framework for precisely defining the treatment effect that is to be estimated, but says little about estimation methods. Here, we report analyses of a clinical trial in type 2 diabetes, targeting the effects of randomized treatment, handling rescue treatment and discontinuation of randomized treatment using the so-called hypothetical strategy. We show how this can be estimated using mixed models for repeated measures, multiple imputation, inverse probability of treatment weighting, G-formula, and G-estimation.

Background: The diagnostic criteria of neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis caused by citrin deficiency (NICCD) have not been established due to non-specific clinical manifestations, and our understanding on the treatment outcome is still limited. We aim to investigate the biochemical characteristics, genetic variants, and treatment outcome of NICCD patients.
Methods: We compared the nutritional status and biochemical characteristics of 55 NICCD infants and 27 idiopathic neonatal cholestasis (INC) infants.
