Objectives: To describe Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) rates and testing practices, at three tertiary/quaternary hospitals in South Africa (SA) for the period 2017 to 2020.
Methods: A retrospective laboratory record review of all C. difficile testing at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH), Tygerberg Hospital (TBH) and Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Academic Hospital (IALCH) was performed.

With the recent approval of Resmetirom as the first drug targeting nuclear receptors for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), there is promising way to treat MASH-associated liver fibrosis. However, liver fibrosis can arise from various pathogenic factors, and effective treatments for fibrosis due to other causes remain elusive. The activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) represents a central link in the pathogenesis of hepatic fibrosis.

Cryogenic electron tomography (cryo-ET) has rapidly advanced as a high-resolution imaging tool for visualizing subcellular structures in 3D with molecular detail. Direct image inspection remains challenging due to inherent low signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). We introduce CryoSamba, a self-supervised deep learning-based model designed for denoising cryo-ET images.

N-methyladenosine (mA) modification is the most common epitranscriptomic modification in eukaryotic RNA and has garnered extensive attention in the context of breast cancer research. The mA modification significantly impacts tumorigenesis and tumor progression by regulating RNA stability, splicing, translation, and degradation. In this review we summarize recent advances in understanding the roles of mA modification in the mechanisms underlying angiogenesis and vasculogenic mimicry in breast cancer.

Background: High-quality estimates of the epidemiology of the autism spectrum and the health needs of autistic people are necessary for service planners and resource allocators. Here we present the global prevalence and health burden of autism spectrum disorder from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021 following improvements to the epidemiological data and burden estimation methods.
Methods: For GBD 2021, a systematic literature review involving searches in PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, the Global Health Data Exchange, and consultation with experts identified data on the epidemiology of autism spectrum disorder.
