Acute Effects of a Single Bout of Strength and Endurance Exercise on Vitamin D Metabolites in Young Adults.

Med Sci Sports Exerc

January 2025

Department of Circulation and Medical Imaging, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, NTNU, Trondheim, NORWAY.

Purpose: The effect of exercise on serum concentration of vitamin D metabolites remains inconclusive, with studies reporting deviating results. This study evaluated the acute effect of a single session of two specific exercise forms; strength training (ST) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT), on circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), free25(OH)D and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D), and skeletal muscle vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene expression, in healthy adults.

Methods: Thirty-nine participants (19 women and 20 men, age 21-30 years) completed a single bout of ST and HIIT exercise, separated by two weeks.

A novel electrochemical detection method utilizing a cost-effective hybrid-modified electrode has been established. A glassy carbon (GC) modified electrode was tested for its ability to measure electrochemical tTG antibody levels, which are essential for diagnosing and monitoring Celiac disease (CD). Tissue transglutaminase protein biomolecules are immobilized on a quantum dots-polypyrrole nanocomposite in the improved electrode.

Background: Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is the third most common endocrine system disorder. Parathyroidectomy (PTx) is the gold standard of care in symptomatic patients. Patients who are not surgical candidates may benefit from percutaneous ethanol ablation, which is a minimally invasive procedure.

Ginkgolide B as a biopsychosocial treatment salvages repeated restraint stress-induced amygdalar anomalies in mice.

IBRO Neurosci Rep

June 2025

Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

From preclinical and clinical findings, it has been shown that the amygdala is a critical mediator of stress and primary target for stress effects in the brain. We investigated the neuroprotective effect of Ginkgolide B (GB) in repeated restraint stress-induced behavioral deficit and amygdalar inflammation in mice. Mice were orally pre-treated with GB 20 mg/kg 1 h prior to 4 h restraint stress for 21 consecutive days.

Analytical errors related to endogenous or exogenous substances are a cause of unnecessary investigation, intervention, and patient concern especially in immunoassay platforms. In this report, we systematically screened for estradiol interference using a practical algorithm. For extended research in interference screening, repeated estradiol measurements for control and case samples were carried out for method comparison (three immunoassay platforms and one liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) measurement), dilution test, polyethylene glycol (PEG) precipitation, and heterophile antibody blocking tube.
