Background: Astroblastoma is an extremely rare tumor of the central nervous system, and its origin and validity as a different entity are still being debated. Because of its rarity and similarities to other glial neoplasms, it is often misdiagnosed, impacting treatment and outcomes.

We present the case of a 62-year-old woman who, during routine gastroscopy for the study of pyrosis, presented findings compatible with esophagitis dissecans superficialis. This is a rare esophageal desquamation disorder of unknown etiology, which generally has a favorable prognosis and good response to antisecretory treatment.

The prevalence of this condition significantly increases with age, and is higher in patients with cardiovascular risk factors or end-stage renal disease. However, patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) may develop atherosclerosis and MAC at a relatively young age.
