The surfaces of minerals could serve important catalytic roles in the prebiotic syntheses of organic molecules, such as amino acids. Thus, the surface chirality is responsible for the asymmetric syntheses of biomolecules. Here, we show induction of the surface chirality of copper metal film by electrodeposition via electrochemical cell rotation in magnetic fields. Such copper film electrodes exhibit chiral behaviour in the electrochemical reaction of alanine enantiomers, and the rotating direction allows control of the chiral sign. These findings are discussed in connection with the asymmetric influence of the system rotation on the magnetohydrodynamic micro-vortices around the electrode surfaces.

Mesoporous materials have garnered significant interest because of their porous structure, large surface area and ease of surface functionalization to incorporate the functional groups of choice. Herein, chiral mesoporous silica nanoparticles (CMSNPs) were prepared using quaternary amino silane as the template, tetramethyl orthosilicate as the silica source and proline and cellulose as chiral selector. The developed CMSNPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, BET surface area analysis and BJH pore size/volume analysis.

The chiral edge current is the boundary manifestation of the Chern number of a quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulator. The van der Waals antiferromagnet MnBiTe is theorized to be a QAH in odd-layers but has shown Hall resistivity below the quantization value at zero magnetic field. Here, we perform scanning superconducting quantum interference device (sSQUID) microscopy on these seemingly failed QAH insulators to image their current distribution.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are powerful biosourced nanomaterials for the construction of chiral photonic films. While various techniques have been used to enrich the optical properties of such systems, surface roughness engineering has yet to be exploited to significantly modify their optical properties. In this work, by using vacuum filtration-assisted self-assembly, CNCs are densely packed into films with high optical transparency.

Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPPs) and Localized Surface Plasmon Resonances (LSPRs) are fundamental phenomena in plasmonics that enable the confinement of electromagnetic waves beyond the diffraction limit. This confinement results in a significant enhancement of the electric field, making this phenomenon particularly beneficial for sensitive detection applications. However, conventional plasmonic sensors face several challenges, notably their difficulty in distinguishing chiral molecules, which are vital in drug development.

Solar-driven photocatalytic technology holds significant potential for addressing energy crisis and mitigating global warming, yet is limited by light absorption, charge separation, and surface reaction kinetics. The past several years has witnessed remarkable progress in optimizing photocatalysis electron spin control. This approach enhances light absorption through energy band tuning, promotes charge separation by spin polarization, and improves surface reaction kinetics strengthening surface interaction and increasing product selectivity.
