Novel Bacillus thuringiensis isolates GS4, GN24 and UP1 were isolated and characterized by determination of serotyping, insecticidal protein by SDS-PAGE, plasmid composition, cry gene content and insect toxicity. Serologically two isolates GS4 and UP1 were allocated to the H3abce which is a new serovar while isolate GN24 was of H3ab type. Isolate GS4 produced flat crystal inclusions while UP1 produced cuboidal crystals. PCR analysis found that both isolates contained cry1 and cry1Ac genes. The major protein bands found of isolate GS4 were of molecular weights 175, 135, 97, 88, 66, 54 and 27 kDa, isolate UP1 were of 85, 60 and 40 kDa and isolate GN24 were of 130, 90, 66 and 45 kDa. Though isolates GS4 and UP1 belonged to a new serovar H3abce, they showed different crystal inclusions and cry gene content. Isolate GS4 was toxic to lepidopteran insect larvae of Helicoverpa armigera but UP1 did not showed any toxicity.

Previous studies have shown that the percentage of high grade prostatic adenocarcinoma (Gleason patterns 4 and 5) in a biopsy correlates with outcome parameters. It has also been shown that the percentage Gleason pattern 4/5 tumour correlates with biochemical failure and overall survival. There are little data relating to the prognostic significance of quantifying the percentage of Gleason pattern 5 in isolation.

Pediococcus pentosaceus GS4 (MTCC 12683), a probiotic lactic acid bacterium (LAB), was found to produce bacteriocin in spent culture. Antibacterial and antagonistic potential of this bacteriocin against reference strains of Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 25619), and Listeria monocytogenes (ATCC 15313) was proven by double-layer and well diffusion methods wherein nisin and ampicillin were used as positive controls. Bacteriocin in supernatant was purified and analyzed by SDS-PAGE, RP-HPLC, and circular dichroism (CD).

A novel actinobacterium, designated strain NEAU-GS4, was isolated from soil collected from Mount Song and characterised using a polyphasic approach. 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity studies showed that strain NEAU-GS4 belongs to the genus Streptomyces, being closely related to Streptomyces spectabilis JCM 4308 (98.8%), Streptomyces sclerotialus DSM 43032 (98.

Fluorescent pseudomonads have been isolated from halophytes, mesophytes, and xerophytes of Pakistan. Among these, eight isolates, GS-1, GS-3, GS-4, GS-6, GS-7, FS-2 (cactus), ARS-38 (cotton), and RP-4 (para grass), showed antifungal activity and were selected for detailed study. Based on biochemical tests and 16S rRNA gene sequences, these were identified as strains of subsp.

To obtain strains exhibiting high levels of solvent tolerance and butanol production, wild type strains of Clostridium acetobutylicum butanol-producing strain GX01 and Lactobacillus mucosae butanol-tolerant strain M26 were subjected to mutagenesis combining N-methyl-N-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine induction with genome shuffling. After four successive rounds of genome shuffling, the C. acetobutylicum shuffled strain GS4-3 showing greater levels of fermentation performances (such as secreting a higher level of amylase, improving the thermal stability, and possessing greater environmental robustness) compared to the wild type strains was isolated.
