Data regarding ceftaroline use for meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (MRSAB) are lacking. Here we review the outcomes of 31 patients with MRSAB treated with ceftaroline, including 9 patients with endocarditis. Clinical success was observed in 23 patients (74.2%). Adverse events associated with prolonged therapy were rare and included eosinophilic pneumonia, rash and diarrhoea. We conclude that ceftaroline can be used for MRSAB.

Objectives: The antimicrobial activity of tedizolid and comparators was evaluated against a large worldwide collection of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates recovered from patients with pneumonia.
Methods: Clinical isolates were collected from patients in 96 medical centres in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, Latin America and the USA between 2017 and 2019, and tested for susceptibility by reference broth microdilution.
Results: The most active agents against S.

Data on ceftaroline (CPT) susceptibility amongst clinical isolates of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA, n=1284) and phenotypic non-extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing (non-ESBL-P) Klebsiella pneumoniae (n=466), obtained from the Antimicrobial Testing Leadership and Surveillance (ATLAS) programme from 2012 to 2018, and selected MRSA isolates from patients with bloodstream infections (BSIs) (n=95) from the Surveillance of Multicentre Antimicrobial Resistance in Taiwan (SMART) programme from 2018 to 2019 were analysed. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of ATLAS isolates were determined using the broth microdilution method, whereas the MICs of SMART BSI-MRSA isolates were determined using the Etest and MicroScan system. The pharmacokinetic profiles and pharmacodynamic parameters of CPT were applied to explore the optimal dosage against infections caused by Taiwanese MRSA and K.

Background: The clinical experience of ceftaroline fosamil (CPT-F) therapy for Gram-positive infective endocarditis is reported from CAPTURE, a retrospective study conducted in the USA.
Methods: Data, including patient demographics, medical history, risk factors, microbiological aetiology and clinical outcomes, were collected by review of patient charts between September 2013 and February 2015.
Results: Patients (n=55) with Gram-positive endocarditis were treated with CPT-F.

We studied in vitro ceftaroline combinations against 61 meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates; 18 of them were also resistant to linezolid, using overlapping E-test method. Daptomycin-ceftaroline combination obtained lower fractional inhibitory concentration values, in comparison with those including vancomycin or linezolid against meticillin-resistant S. aureus (P<0.

Meticillin resistance is observed among S.aureus strains since 1961 and is due to the synthesis by S.aureus of a modified penicillin binding proteins named PBP2a with decreased affinity to Meticillin.
