Multiple technologies have emerged for structural diversification and efficient production of metabolites of drug molecules. These include expanded use of enzymatic and bioorganic transformations that mimic biological systems, biomimetic catalysis and electrochemical techniques. As this field continues to mature the breadth of transformations is growing beyond simple oxidative processes due in part to parallel development of more efficient catalytic methods for functionalization of unactivated scaffolds. These technologies allow for efficient structural diversification of both aromatic and aliphatic substrates in many cases via single step reactions without the use of protecting groups.

Background: Streptomyces is a highly diverse genus known for the production of secondary or specialized metabolites with a wide range of applications in the medical and agricultural industries. Several thousand complete or nearly complete Streptomyces genome sequences are now available, affording the opportunity to deeply investigate the biosynthetic potential within these organisms and to advance natural product discovery initiatives.
Results: We perform pangenome analysis on 2371 Streptomyces genomes, including approximately 1200 complete assemblies.

Insect phenoloxidase, presented as an inactive precursor prophenoloxidase (PPO) in hemolymph, catalyzes melanin formation, which is involved in wound healing, pathogen killing, reversible oxygen collection during insect respiration, and cuticle and eggshell formation. Mosquitoes possess 9 to 16 PPO members across different genera, a number that is more than that found in other dipteran insects. However, the reasons for the redundancy of these PPOs and whether they have distinct biochemical properties and physiological functions remain unclear.

The synaptonemal complex (SC) is a protein-rich structure essential for meiotic recombination and faithful chromosome segregation. Acting like a zipper to paired homologous chromosomes during early prophase I, the complex is a symmetrical structure where central elements are connected on two sides by the transverse filaments to the chromatin-anchoring lateral elements. Despite being found in most major eukaryotic taxa implying a deeply conserved evolutionary origin, several components of the complex exhibit unusually high rates of sequence turnover.
