Activation and standardization studies have been conducted with high purity grades 950 and 923 silica gel to obtain an effective adsorbent for cleanup of pesticide residue extracts. Activation of silica gel at 130°C or 300°C for a 2-hr period was very satisfactory for separating pesticides from biological materials with high recovery of pesticides. No gain in the activity of the adsorbent resulted from prolonging heat treatment beyond the 2-hr period. It was also found that the activity of the silica gel was not affected by storing it in an air-tight container for as long as 60 days.

Sterols and triterpene alcohols exist in free and esterified forms in edible oils. To date, only few studies have determined the content of free or esterified sterols and triterpene alcohols using gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID). In this study, analytical conditions were optimized using free and esterified sterol standards.

Immobilizing the target protein on a solid surface with controlled orientation, high specificity, and maintained activity is a proven strategy to enhance the stability of the protein. In this study, we employed an ultra-high affinity protein pair consisting of a mutant of colicin E7 Dnase and its corresponding inhibitor, immunity protein 7(Im7), to develop an immobilized α-adrenoceptor (α-AR) column. Briefly, we expressed α-AR fused with CL7 as a tag at its C-terminus in Escherichia coli cells.

When a test substance is poorly water-soluble, it can be adsorbed onto silica gel to facilitate dispersibility in a ready biodegradability test. To uniformly adsorb the test substance onto silica gel, the substance is dissolved in a solvent and then mixed with the silica gel. It is desirable for the solvent to completely evaporate afterward.

The controllable synthesis of monodisperse mesoporous silica microspheres with unique physicochemical properties is becoming increasingly important for a variety of applications such as catalysts, chromatography, drug delivery and sensors. Here, we report a facile microfluidic-assisted sol-gel method for the preparation of silica microspheres with precisely controlled properties such as the size of the microspheres, the surface morphology, porosity and stiffness. All these properties can be manipulated by changing specific synthesis parameters, such as changing the microfluidic channels to tune the size of the microdroplets (tens to hundreds of microns), changing the contents of the precursor solution to manipulate the surface morphology (wrinkled to smooth surface) and changing the gelation/annealing conditions to tune the porosity (surface area up to 1021 m g) and stiffness of the microspheres (elastic modulus tunable from 0.

The study of green analytical chemistry has garnered significant attention in the context of mitigating global environmental contamination. In this study, we present two methodologies for environmentally friendly chromatography that enable simultaneous and specific determination of Saxagliptin (SAX), metformin (MET), and a pharmacopoeial impurity of MET known as melamine (MEL). The initial method employed in this study is High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC), which utilized 60 F 254 silica gel-coated Mark HPTLC plates on aluminum sheets as the stationary phase.
