Predictors of behavior change intention using health risk appraisal data.

Health Management Research Center, School of Kinesiology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA.

Published: July 2013

Objectives: To investigate predictors of behavior change intention and discuss potential implications for practitioners.

Methods: Health risk appraisal (HRA) data from 2 organizations were used to develop and confirm a path analysis model for predictors of intention to change behavior.

Results: Lower self-rated health perception and higher ratings of stress corresponded to higher behavior-change intention scores. Stress was associated with poorer health perception.

Conclusions: Higher stress and lower perception of health status were directly associated with intention to change behavior. Incorporating stress management and awareness of health perception into health promotion strategies could enhance wellness programs by aligning programs with motivating factors.

Predicting ALS informant distress from cognitive and behavioural change in people with ALS.

J Neurol

January 2025

Department of Psychology, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London, London, UK.

Background: The cognitive and behavioural changes that occur in around 50% of people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) may significantly affect people around them, contributing to heightened burden, anxiety, and depression. Despite existing evidence linking behavioural impairment to caregiver distress, the role of cognitive impairment remains less clear, with mixed findings on its impact.

Methods: This study assessed the influence of cognitive and behavioural impairments in people with ALS on the distress of their nominated informants.

Introduction: Chronic non-specific low back pain (cnLBP) is a common primary care health issue. While acupuncture offers promising potential as a complementary treatment, its acceptance and integration into standard medical care for cnLBP remains inconsistent. This study investigated the predictors of acupuncture referral for cnLBP using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB).

Significant variation in mercury (Hg) bioaccumulation is observed across the diversity of freshwater ecosystems in North America. While there is support for the major drivers of Hg bioaccumulation, the relative influence of different external factors can vary widely among waterbodies, which makes predicting Hg risk across large spatial scales particularly challenging. We modeled Hg bioaccumulation by coupling Hg concentrations in more than 21,000 dragonflies collected across the United States from 2008 to 2021 with a suite of chemical (e.
