Retin Cases Brief Rep

Department of Ophthalmology, American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon.
Purpose: To report a successful case of vision restoration and macular reperfusion following branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) using pars plana vitrectomy with undermining the artery off the retinal bed.
Methods: This case report involves a 75-year-old patient who was diagnosed immediately with BRAO following cardiac catheterization procedure. An embolus at the superior retinal artery bifurcation was noted.

Background: In recent years, transcatheter implantation devices to restrict pulmonary arterial flow have emerged as a potential alternative to surgical pulmonary artery banding.
Case Presentation: A term male was diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis (AS) and severely reduced left ventricle (LV) systolic function. He underwent aortic balloon valvuloplasty on day 2 of life, resulting in some antegrade flow, but LV ejection fraction only improved to 15%.

The oxygen reserve index (ORi) is a novel, non-invasive parameter that estimates arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO) during hyperoxia when the fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO) is elevated. This study aimed to assess the utility of the ORi/FiO ratio as an index for quantifying F-shunt, serving as an estimate of venous admixture. Anesthetic records were reviewed from 44 dogs undergoing general anesthesia and requiring arterial catheterization.

Background: Although the prognosis in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has dramatically improved, pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) is one of the life-threatening comorbidities associated with SLE. The management of the comorbidity is occasionally challenging due to the lack of consensus regarding treatment options including immunosuppressive agents, selective pulmonary vasodilators, and cardiac rehabilitation.
Case Summary: A 28-year-old female who terminated prednisolone after remission of SLE by her own discretion 3 years ago developed dyspnoea on effort.

Background: The selection of the cannulation site for elective aortic surgery is mostly an individual choice based on the surgeon's experience and the surgical strategy. We evaluated the long-term outcomes of right common carotid artery (CCA) cannulation using a side graft to establish unilateral selective antegrade cerebral perfusion (uSACP).
Methods: We reviewed the records of 343 patients who underwent elective ascending aortic or aortic arch surgery between 2013 and 2020.
