Supercritical (sc) CO in geologic carbon sequestration (GCS) can chemically and mechanically deteriorate wellbore cement, raising concerns for long-term operations. In contrast to the conventional view of "sulfate attack" on cement, we found that adding 0.15 M sulfate to the acidic brine can significantly reduce the impact of scCO attack on Portland cement, resulting in stronger cement than that found in a sulfate-free system.

Wide field of view and light weight optics are critical for advanced eyewear, with applications in augmented/virtual reality and night vision. Conventional refractive lenses are often stacked to correct aberrations at a wide field of view, leading to limited performance and increased size and weight. In particular, simultaneously achieving a wide field of view and large aperture for light collection is desirable but challenging to realize in a compact form-factor.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant strides by imitating biological neurons and synapses through simplified models, yet incomplete neuron functionalities can limit performance and energy efficiency in handling complex tasks. Biological neurons process input signals nonlinearly, utilizing dendrites to process spatial-temporal information. Inspired by the biological eye movements of fish such as pipefish and sandlances, this paper presents a novel dynamic calibration method specifically for active stereo vision systems to address the challenges of active cameras with varying fields of view (FOVs). By integrating static calibration based on camera rotation angles with dynamic updates of extrinsic parameters, the method leverages relative pose adjustments between the rotation axis and cameras to update extrinsic parameters continuously in real-time. It facilitates epipolar rectification as the FOV changes, and enables precise disparity computation and accurate depth information acquisition.

Background: Preliminary small-sample studies suggest that silent magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) has an advantage over time-of-flight MRA (TOF MRA) in the characterization of brain arteriovenous malformation (BAVM), but did not examine whether the imaging performance of silent MRA was affected by the intrinsic features of BAVM or common clinical factors. This study sought to compare silent MRA and TOF MRA in terms of the visualization and grading of BAVMs in various clinical settings.
