In this issue of Neuron, Kornblith et al. (2013) identify two regions in macaque occipitotemporal cortex that encode both spatial and nonspatial aspects of visual scenes and might be the homolog of the human parahippocampal place area.

The fine-grained functional organization of the human lateral prefrontal cortex (PFC) remains poorly understood. Previous fMRI studies delineated focal domain-general, or multiple-demand (MD), PFC areas that co-activate during diverse cognitively demanding tasks. While there is some evidence for category-selective (face and scene) patches, in human and non-human primate PFC, these have not been systematically assessed.

Scarce feature points are a critical limitation affecting the accuracy and stability of incremental structure from motion (SfM) in small-scale scenes. In this paper, we propose an incremental SfM method for small-scale scenes, combined with an auxiliary calibration plate. This approach increases the number of feature points in sparse regions, and we randomly generate feature points within those areas.

Aiming at the problems of a six-degree-of-freedom robotic arm in a three-dimensional multi-obstacle space, such as low sampling efficiency and path search failure, an improved fast extended random tree (RRT*) algorithm for robotic arm path planning method (abbreviated as HP-APF-RRT*) is proposed. The algorithm generates multiple candidate points per iteration, selecting a sampling point probabilistically based on heuristic values, thereby optimizing sampling efficiency and reducing unnecessary nodes. To mitigate increased search times in obstacle-dense areas, an artificial potential field (APF) approach is integrated, establishing gravitational and repulsive fields to guide sampling points around obstacles toward the target.

Precise segmentation of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-captured images plays a vital role in tasks such as crop yield estimation and plant health assessment in banana plantations. By identifying and classifying planted areas, crop areas can be calculated, which is indispensable for accurate yield predictions. However, segmenting banana plantation scenes requires a substantial amount of annotated data, and manual labeling of these images is both timeconsuming and labor-intensive, limiting the development of large-scale datasets.

Background: Volunteers providing nursing services are among the first individuals to arrive at the scene after an incident; therefore, they must use their skills and capabilities to provide necessary care for the injured to prevent problems from worsening and complications from arising. Consequently, having structured empowerment courses for volunteers before disasters seems essential. This research aimed to determine the dimensions and components of empowering volunteer nursing service providers in disasters.
