Titanium and its alloys have been widely used for blood-contacting biomedical devices; however, their blood compatibility needs to be improved. In this study, titanium surface was modified by sequential immobilization of oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG) and 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) to improve its anticoagulation. Water contact angle results showed an excellent hydrophilic surface after the immobilization. Attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) confirmed that OEG and MPC were successfully immobilized on titanium surface. Static platelet adhesion and APTT (activated partial thromboplastin time) experiments suggested that the anticoagulation of titanium was significantly enhanced by the immobilization of OEG and further by subsequent MPC grafting. The approach in the present study opens up a window of promising an effective and efficient method to improve the anticoagulation of blood-contact biomedical devices such as coronary stents.

Background: This randomized clinical trial aimed to evaluate the effect of intracanal cryotherapy with 2-4 °C normal saline irrigation on post-operative pain after single-visit non-surgical root canal retreatment.
Methods: Forty-six single-rooted, single-canal teeth requiring non-surgical root canal retreatment were randomly assigned to two groups (n = 23): a cryotherapy group and a control group. All the treatments were completed during a single visit.

Aim: To investigate the efficacy of nanodiamond irrigation solution with sonic agitation for removing of hard-tissue debris (HTD) within the isthmus-containing mesial roots of human mandibular molars using micro-CT analysis.
Methodology: Forty mesial roots of extracted human mandibular molars were selected based on micro-computed tomography scans (9-μm resolution). The mesial canals were mechanically prepared using ProTaper® Gold nickel-titanium rotary instruments and divided into four groups (n = 10 each) according to the final irrigation protocol: sonic agitation with nanodiamond irrigation solution for three 20-s cycles, sonic agitation with 17% EDTA for three 20-s cycles, sonic agitation with 3% NaOCl for three 20-s cycles and manual syringe irrigation with NaOCl using a 30-G needle syringe for 60 s.

With medical technology development, endovascular intervention has been widely used in clinical practice, and the establishment of surgical access through the femoral artery, where most vascular interventions are performed, is a common method. Postoperative hemostasis at the femoral artery puncture site is a key part of interventional procedures and is particularly important to ensure the safety and effectiveness of hemostasis. Some patients undergoing interventional therapy also use anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs preoperatively and undergo systemic heparin session intraoperatively, which leads to abnormal coagulation, thus increasing the difficulty of hemostasis at the puncture point postoperatively.

The catheters coating can be effective in reducing bloodstream infection and thrombosis, which are the major complications in blood contact catheters. However, the surface functional coating is difficult to be implemented due to the high surface stretching force from the minor-caliber. In this work, we propose a covalent bonding coating of polydopamine/titanium dioxide quantum dots (PDA/TiO QDs) on polyurethane (PU) catheters, which can fulfill a dual-function of antibacterial and antithrombosis.

This study investigated phytic acid (IP6) effect on chemical, structural, and mechanical characteristics of nickel-titanium (NiTi) files. The tested files were equally divided into groups according to the immersion protocol: sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), IP6, EDTA followed by NaOCl, and IP6 followed by NaOCl. These groups were then compared in terms of Ni, Ti, and chromium (Cr) ions release from the files.
