Background: Based on animal studies, n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been suggested to lower the risk of obesity and inflammation. We aimed to investigate if, among humans, intake of n-3 PUFAs was associated with i) total body fat, ii) body fat distribution and iii) obesity-related inflammatory markers.

Methods: The study population consisted of 1,212 healthy individuals with information on habitual food intake from food frequency questionnaires, six different measures of body fat, and levels of six circulating inflammatory markers. Multiple linear regression analysis of intakes of PUFAs in relation to outcomes were performed and adjusted for potential confounders.

Results: Absolute n-3 PUFA intake, but not n-3/n-6, was inversely associated with the different measures of body fat. Among n-3 PUFA derivatives, only α-linolenic acid (ALA) was inversely associated with body fat measures. No significant interactions with the dietary macronutrient composition were observed. Pro-inflammatory cytokines were not associated with absolute PUFA intake, but the macrophage inflammatory protein-1α (MIP-1α) was associated with the n-3/n-6 ratio.

Conclusion: In humans, intake of n-3 PUFAs, in particular ALA, is beneficially associated with body fatness. The favourable association is, however, not reflected in systemic levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, nor is it influenced by macronutrients in the diet.

Background: Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) is a rare mesenchymal cancer originating from the adipose tissue, with poor survival rates for most patients, highlighting the critical need for novel treatment options.

Case Description: This report examines the efficacy and safety of sequential pre-treatment with the marine-derived alkaloid trabectedin followed by checkpoint inhibition using the anti-PD-1 antibody nivolumab in a 63-year-old male patient with unresectable retroperitoneal DDLPS. Treatment was initiated at the time of the seventh relapse as part of the NitraSarc phase 2 multicenter trial for inoperable soft tissue sarcoma conducted by the German Interdisciplinary Sarcoma Group (GISG-15, ).

Buttock augmentation has emerged as a significant focus in cosmetic surgery, driven by advancements in techniques and increasing patient interest in body contouring. The evolution of this field, from early pioneering methods to modern, diverse approaches, highlights the need to understand the specific characteristics of each technique and their implications for aesthetic outcomes. The author aims to provide a detailed review of 4 major buttock augmentation techniques: gluteal implants, Brazilian butt lift (BBL), intramuscular polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), and deep subcutaneous hyaluronic acid fillers.

Evaluating Pericoronary Adipose Tissue Attenuation to Predict Cardiovascular Events: A Multicenter Study in East Asians.

JACC Asia

January 2025

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Okayama University, Okayama, Japan.

Background: Pericoronary adipose tissue attenuation (PCATA) is a novel imaging biomarker of pericoronary inflammation associated with coronary artery disease. Several studies have reported the usefulness of PCATA among people of European ethnicity; however, data are lacking concerning those of Asian ethnicity.

Objectives: This multicenter study aimed to evaluate the effect of PCATA on prognosis in East Asian patients.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the preventive effect of walnut oil as medicinal food on abnormal lipid metabolism and its influence on liver metabolites and intestinal flora.

Methods: The rat model of abnormal lipid metabolism was established by feeding high-fat diet and administering a high-fat emulsion via gavage. The rats were randomly assigned to one of the five groups: the normal group (ND), the model group (HFD), and three walnut oil intervention groups differing in dosage [low-dose (OL, 2.
