Introduction: Unattended pregnancies are characterized by significant morbidity maternal and morbidity and mortality fetal. This study aims to determine the frequency of unattended pregnancies, to describe the socio-demographic profile and to assess the maternal and fetal outcomes during childbirth among women who did not attend antenatal care (ANC) in the city of Lubumbashi.

Background: Low birthweight (LBW) remains the most important risk factor which attributed to mortality of 15-20% of newborns across the globe. An infant with low birthweight is more likely to have stunting in childhood and develop markers of metabolic risk factors at his later age. Furthermore, LBW is a risk for inter-generational assaults of malnutrition as it is the risk for sub optimal growth until adulthood, affecting women's and male's reproductive capabilities.

Objective: To determine the occurrence of and risk factors for fetomaternal hemorrhage (FMH) among pregnant women at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana.

Methods: A prospective study of FMH among pregnant women without hemoglobinopathies in the second trimester attending prenatal care between October 2015 and May 2016 performed using the Kleihauer-Betke test. Volume of FMH was estimated; ABO and Rh blood groups of participants were determined.

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) during pregnancy not only results in the disturbance of hematological parameters but has been found to be an additional cause of oxidative stress (OS). Moreover, oral iron for IDA during pregnancy has been found to worsen the condition. Present study aims to detect any alteration in glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity as an enzymatic anti-oxidant and its association with oral iron supplements.
