Purpose: Anterior chamber depth (ACD) is an important preoperative parameter in anterior segment surgery. Several factors are known to influence ACD, including race and geography. Our purpose was to sample data from various countries to characterize differences in ACD worldwide and, if any, assess their level of clinical significance.
Setting: International, multicenter.
Methods: Cross-sectional study. Using the Pentacam Eye Scanner (OCULUS GmbH, Wetzlar, Germany), we analyzed ACD measurements from 1077 eyes of 568 normal adults from nine countries spanning six continents. Differences between countries were assessed by comparison of 95% confidence intervals and by ANOVA. Normative thresholds were constructed at three standard deviations (SD) above and below the mean.
Results: Mean ACD was 3.11 mm overall, ranging from 2.91 mm (New Zealand) to 3.24 mm (United States). The ACD among New Zealanders was significantly shallower (P < .0001) than that among Chinese, Egyptians, Germans, Indians, and Americans. The maximum difference in the mean ACDs was 0.33 mm, between New Zealand and the United States. The shallowest 0.15% of normal ACD values occurred below 2.04 mm overall, ranging from 1.69 mm (New Zealand) to 2.42 mm (United States). The deepest 0.15% of normal ACD values occurred above 4.18 mm overall, ranging from 4.03 mm (Saudi Arabia) to 4.35 mm (Brazil).
Conclusions: ACD did not vary significantly in the countries studied, with the notable exception of New Zealand. Surgeons should anticipate a greater likelihood of a shallow ACD when evaluating patients from New Zealand. Clinical examination and direct measurement of ACD are recommended. Finally, deep ACD has limited clinical utility in screening for keratoconus.

We report a case of spontaneous total iris avulsion that occurred during corneal wound hydration following an uneventful phacoemulsification procedure. An 86-year-old woman underwent cataract surgery on her right eye, during which a single-piece acrylic intraocular lens (Bausch and Lomb Akreos Adapt Advanced Optics, Bausch and Lomb Incorporated, Rochester, NY, USA) was implanted in the bag, and the viscoelastic material was removed. During corneal wound hydration, total iris avulsion was observed, with the iris prolapsing out of the anterior chamber through the main wound.

Background: This study reports a rare case of delayed spontaneous resolution of double anterior chambers (AC) resulting from non-rhegmatogenous Descemet membrane detachment (DMD) after deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK). Currently, management guidelines for this condition have not been established.
Case Presentation: A 65-year-old woman with lattice corneal dystrophy underwent uncomplicated DALK, during which an unrecognized type 2 big bubble was present.

Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) infection can cause ophthalmic diseases in immunocompetent patients, recipients of bone marrow transplants, and patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This study describes the case of a healthy 37-year-old male who presented with unilateral anterior uveitis (AU), significant anterior chamber exudation, pupillary membrane closure, increased intraocular pressure, and eyelid edema. Notably, HHV-6A was the only pathogenic agent identified in the blood and aqueous humor.

Introduction: Raga County is an onchocerciasis-endemic area in the Western Bahr El Ghazal state of South Sudan, known to have a high prevalence of blindness. The objective of this study was to determine the causes of eye disease and blindness in Raga County as well as to assess the relationship of eye diseases with other prevalent conditions like onchocerciasis and epilepsy.
Methods: We reviewed unpublished pre-community directed treatment with ivermectin (CDTI) data about eye disease and onchocerciasis in Western Bahr El Ghazal including Raga.

Preserflo MicroShunt (PMS) implantation is a minimally invasive surgical procedure for treating glaucoma. Postoperative hypotony, a common complication of PMS implantation, can be prevented and treated with 10-0 nylon insertion. In this report, we present a case of postoperative hypotony following PMS implantation that was treated with intraluminal insertion of 9-0 nylon.
