Optimization of the Beam Shaping Assembly (BSA) has been performed using the MCNP4C Monte Carlo code to shape the 2.45 MeV neutrons that are produced in the D-D neutron generator. Optimal design of the BSA has been chosen by considering in-air figures of merit (FOM) which consists of 70 cm Fluental as a moderator, 30 cm Pb as a reflector, 2mm (6)Li as a thermal neutron filter and 2mm Pb as a gamma filter. The neutron beam can be evaluated by in-phantom parameters, from which therapeutic gain can be derived. Direct evaluation of both set of FOMs (in-air and in-phantom) is very time consuming. In this paper a Response Matrix (RM) method has been suggested to reduce the computing time. This method is based on considering the neutron spectrum at the beam exit and calculating contribution of various dose components in phantom to calculate the Response Matrix. Results show good agreement between direct calculation and the RM method.

Bacterial biofilms exhibit remarkable resistance against conventional antibiotics and are capable of evading the humoral immune response. They account for nearly 80% of chronic infections in humans. Development of bacterial biofilms on medical implants results in their malfunctioning and subsequently leads to high mortality rates worldwide.

Numerous unregulated organic compounds (UOCs) including pharmaceuticals, opioids, and personal care products (PCPs) end up in wastewater. UOC presence in biosolids (a wastewater treatment byproduct), which are applied to soil for different reasons raises environmental and health risk concerns. In this study, two multi-class extraction methods were developed and validated to target 111 UOCs from 8 different major families simultaneously in biosolids and biosolids-impacted soil.

Endoplasmic reticulum stress in liver fibrosis: Mechanisms and therapeutic potential.

This paper reviews the important role of endoplasmic reticulum stress in the patho mechanism of liver fibrosis and its potential as a potential target for the treatment of liver fibrosis. Liver fibrosis is the result of sustained inflammation and injury to the liver due to a variety of factors, triggering excessive deposition of extracellular matrix and fibrous scar formation, which in turn leads to loss of liver function and a variety of related complications. Endoplasmic reticulum stress is one of the characteristics of chronic liver disease and is closely related to the pathological process of chronic liver disease, including alcohol-related liver disease, viral hepatitis, and liver fibrosis.

Electronic address:

The extracellular matrix (ECM) plays an important role in the central nervous system (CNS), shaping tissue structure and functions as well as contributing to the pathology of chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS). ECM components, including fibulin-2 (FBLN2) and chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs), may impact neuroinflammation and remyelination. We investigated the capacity of FBLN2 to modulate immune responses and evaluated its interaction with CSPGs in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a common model for MS.

The aberrant vascular response associated with tendon injury results in circulating immune cell infiltration and a chronic inflammatory feedback loop leading to poor healing outcomes. Studying this dysregulated tendon repair response in human pathophysiology has been historically challenging due to the reliance on animal models. To address this, our group developed the human tendon-on-a-chip (hToC) to model cellular interactions in the injured tendon microenvironment; however, this model lacked the key element of physiological flow in the vascular compartment.
