Background: To compare postoperative cornea endothelial cell loss between combined phacovitrectomy and pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with fragmentation.
Methods: Eighty-eight consecutive patients (92 eyes) who underwent combined phacovitrectomy (53 eyes from 50 patients) or PPV with fragmentation (39 eyes from 38 patients) were enrolled in this retrospective study. Endothelial cell density (ECD) was calculated with specular microscopy at 1 and 3 months after surgery.
Results: At 3 months after surgery, the mean ECD decreased significantly from 2,646 ± 296 cells/mm(2) to 2,422 ± 347 cells/mm(2) in the combined phacovitrectomy group (P < 0.001). However, the PPV with fragmentation group did not show any significant changes in ECD during the same period (from 2,123 ± 628 cells/mm(2) to 2,073 ± 574 cells/mm(2)). The mean endothelial cell loss in the combined phacovitrectomy group (7.9 and 9.5 %) was significantly higher than that in the PPV with fragmentation group (0.7 and 2.4 %) both at 1 and 3 months postoperatively (P = 0.001 and P = 0.001 respectively).
Conclusion: In this study, corneal endothelial cell loss during the early postoperative period was significantly higher after combined phacovitrectomy than after PPV with fragmentation.

Objective: To determine the risk factors for subsequent intraocular lens (IOL) surgery among eyes undergoing either combined or sequential phaco-vitrectomy.
Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Participants: Adult patients undergoing phacoemulsification at 8 United Kingdom National Health Service clinical centers between July 2003 and March 2015.

Purpose: The management of idiopathic macular holes (iMH) has evolved over time with various modifications in surgical approach. The study aimed to survey the surgeons' preferences in the management of iMH in current times.
Design: Cross-sectional descriptive survey.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of combined phacovitrectomy versus sequential phacoemulsification and vitrectomy in patients with both senile cataract and epiretinal membrane (ERM).
Methods: A retrospective multicenter study was conducted between 2014 and 2022 at two hospitals in Italy. Patients with idiopathic ERM and senile cataract in the same eye were enrolled and underwent either combined (n=38) or sequential surgery (n=38), performed by a single surgeon.

Purpose: To compare short- and long-term anatomical, functional, and refractive outcomes between combined phacovitrectomy (PVS) and consecutive vitrectomy (CVS) for idiopathic macular holes (MHs). Also, to evaluate the role of preoperative optical coherence tomography (OCT) image quality in guiding surgical selection.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed 183 phakic MH eyes operated between 2012 and 23, with patients divided into PVS and CVS groups.
