Published: April 2013

The alkaloids in Zanthoxylum nitidum were identified by HPLC-DAD/ESI-Q-TOF-MS. Separation was performed on a Hanbon C18 column with acetonitrile (with 0.1% formic acid) and water(with 0.1% formic acid) as mobile phase. Based on the high-resolution mass information, MS/MS fragmentation behaviors and chemical components from literatures, 48 components were identified or tentatively characterized including 6 new compounds. This work could be useful for the quality control and further studies of the plant.

Concise Three Step Synthesis of the Bioactive Alkaloid Huajiaosimuline via a Zn(OTf)-Promoted Meinwald Rearrangement.

Chem Biodivers

December 2024

Instituto de Química Rosario, Facultad de Ciencias Bioquímicas y Farmacéuticas, Universidad Nacional de Rosario-CONICET, Rosario, Argentina.

The synthesis of the biologically active alkaloid huajiaosimulne, isolated from the roots of Zanthoxylum simulans, is reported. The natural product was assembled from simple commercial reagents via initial domino Knoevenagel/oxa-6π-electrocyclization followed by epoxidation and an epoxide/ketone rearrangement promoted by Zn(OTf). In vitro cytotoxicity assays identified natural products huajiaosimuline and simulansine as moderate antiproliferative agents against murine colon cancer CT26 cells.

is a medicinal plant widely studied due to its great phytochemical diversity, especially its acrinonic alkaloids, which have shown to be promising anticancer candidates. The aim of this work was to promote the isolation of acridonic alkaloids from fruits of and carried out absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy studies with calf thymus DNA and BSA. Five acridone alkaloids have been isolated, including the first description of 3-desmethoxy arborinine ().
