Evanescent-wave-induced frequency shift for optical superresolution imaging.

Published: July 2013

We propose a method to enhance the resolution and break the diffraction limit. The superresolution imaging is realized by incorporating total internal reflection (TIR) illumination with a passive spatial frequency shift mechanism. Meanwhile, TIR supplies a surface field with a limited penetration depth, which demonstrates that the axial resolution can be improved simultaneously. The superresolution capability is confirmed both theoretically and experimentally. Compared with microfiber-based former work, this idea possesses promising merits, providing a wider viewing field and a simpler configuration for variable illumination orientations, thereby implying abundant application potentials.

Microwave surface and Lamb waves in a multilayered piezoelectric "Al-IDT/(AlSc)N/(001)[110] diamond" structure designed as a SAW resonator were studied using both the experimental and modeling methods. In this structure, it is possible to generate Rayleigh, surface horizontal (SH) and Lamb waves simultaneously. The successful excitation of Lamb waves at operating frequencies up to 20 GHz has been obtained.

Human noroviruses (HNoVs) are a leading cause of acute gastroenteritis worldwide, with significant public health implications. In this study, wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) was used to monitor the circulation and genetic diversity of HNoVs in Rome over an eight-year period (2017-2024). A total of 337 wastewater samples were analyzed using RT-nested PCR and next-generation sequencing (NGS) to identify genogroups GI and GII and their respective genotypes.

This study investigates the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR cycle threshold (Ct) values and key COVID-19 transmission and outcome metrics across five years of the pandemic in Jalisco, Mexico. Utilizing a comprehensive time-series analysis, we evaluated weekly median Ct values as proxies for viral load and their temporal associations with positivity rates, reproduction numbers (Rt), hospitalizations, and mortality. Cross-correlation and lagged regression analyses revealed significant lead-lag relationships, with declining Ct values consistently preceding surges in positivity rates and hospitalizations, particularly during the early phases of the pandemic.

SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, has undergone significant genetic evolution since its emergence in 2019. This study examines the genomic diversity of SARS-CoV-2 in Brazil after the worst phase of the pandemic, the wider adoption of routine vaccination, and the abolishment of other non-pharmacological preventive measures from July 2022 to July 2024 using 55,951 sequences retrieved from the GISAID database. The analysis focuses on the correlation between confirmed COVID-19 cases, sequencing efforts across Brazilian states, and the distribution and evolution of viral lineages.
