We report on interferometric measurements of the thermo-optical aberrations of the laser medium of an Yb:YAG thin-disk laser in pumped and cw lasing conditions at several pump-power levels with a mean repeatability of 5 nm. These measurements build the basis for future intracavity compensation of the aberrations with our deformable mirror in order to improve the fundamental-mode efficiency.

Ultrafast thermal switches are pivotal for managing heat generated in advanced solid-state applications, including high-speed chiplets, thermo-optical modulators, and on-chip lasers. However, conventional phonon-based switches cannot meet the demand for picosecond-level response times, and existing near-field radiative thermal switches face challenges in efficiently modulating heat transfer across vacuum gaps. To overcome these limitations, we propose an ultrafast thermal switch design based on pump-driven transient polaritons in asymmetric terminals.

For the purpose of determining the characteristics of the Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside chloride (COGC) dye, both an FT-IR spectrometer and a UV-Visible spect rometer were employed through the process. At a wavelength of 473 nm, a diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser with an adjustable wavelength was used to quantify the thermally induced optical nonlinearity of the dye in a solvent composed of dimethylformamide. For the purpose of measuring the optical response, the Z-scan technique was utilised.

The processing of pure copper (Cu) has been a challenge for laser-based additive manufacturing for many years since copper powders have a high reflectivity of up to 83% of electromagnetic radiation at a wavelength of 1070 nm. In this study, Cu particles were coated with sub-micrometer tungsten (W) particles to increase the laser beam absorptivity. The coated powders were processed by powder bed fusion-laser beam for metals (PBF-LB/M) with a conventional laser system of <300 watts laser power and a wavelength of 1070 nm.

The Italian Interministerial Decree of February 11, 2021, introduces the diesel engine exhaust (DDE) among the carcinogenic occupational compounds, also establishing an occupational exposure limit. Elemental carbon (EC), improperly called black carbon, has been proposed as a tracer of DDE exposure; EC is the carbon that is quantified in the ambient matrixes after all the organic carbon has been removed; traditionally, EC is measured with a thermo-optical analytical technique. EC determination and relative interpretation are challenging for the following reasons: (i) the scarce availability of equipped laboratories hampers EC analysis, (ii) EC interpretation is not easy due to the lack of reference values.

Two self-healing-type supramolecular Ni(II)-metallogels are achieved. The choice of proper low-molecular-weight organic gelators such as -butenedioic acid (, -BDA) and -butenedioic acid (, -BDA) and triethylamine in ,'-dimethylformamide solvent facilitates the metallogelation process. Through rheological investigations the mechanical robustness and viscoelastic properties of synthesized metallogels are explored.
