Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety during expectation of performance-related situations is an important feature of the psychopathology of social anxiety disorder (SAD). The neural basis of anticipatory anxiety in SAD has not been investigated in controlled studies. The current study used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the neural correlates during the anticipation of public and evaluated speaking vs a control condition in 17 SAD patients and 17 healthy control subjects. FMRI results show increased activation of the insula and decreased activation of the ventral striatum in SAD patients, compared to control subjects during anticipation of a speech vs the control condition. In addition, an activation of the amygdala in SAD patients during the first half of the anticipation phase in the speech condition was observed. Finally, the amount of anticipatory anxiety of SAD patients was negatively correlated to the activation of the ventral striatum. This suggests an association between incentive function, motivation and anticipatory anxiety when SAD patients expect a performance situation.

Objectives: Examine the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effects of the Telephone Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Intervention for Caregivers (TACTICs) on dementia caregivers' anxiety, depression, caregiver burden, suffering, and anticipatory grief.
Method: A 2-arm pilot randomized trial with dementia caregivers ≥ 21 years old with clinically elevated anxiety or anxiety-related functional interference. Two cohorts were recruited at the beginning and end of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Ostomy education and support is instrumental in surgical recovery and adaptation. We aimed to evaluate 1) challenges faced by fecal ostomy patients with colorectal cancer and 2) resources necessary for recovery.
Methods: We recruited patients 21-90 days after scheduled fecal ostomy surgery for locally advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer from a single, tertiary academic center.

Individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD) experience significant and persistent fear of social situations as they anticipate rejection, scrutiny, and embarrassment. Given that physiological reactions to social situations may shape emotional experience in SAD, understanding psychophysiological changes operating in SAD may be important to address this potentially key perpetuating factor. This study compared the patterns of change (via contrasts of estimated marginal means) and persistence (via autoregressive models) of two indices of heart rate variability (HRV; Root Mean Square of Successive Differences between normal heartbeats, and High-Frequency absolute units) as physiological measures of emotion regulation, between individuals with SAD (n = 94) and without (n = 59) using the Trier Social Stress Test phases (TSST).

Objective: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder with the second highest mortality of all mental illnesses and high relapse rate, especially among adult females, yet with no accepted pharmacotherapy. A small number of studies have reported that adult females who struggled with severe and relapsing AN experienced sustained remission of the illness following ketamine infusions. Two other reports showed that 30 mg/kg IP ketamine can reduce vulnerability of adolescent mice to activity-based anorexia (ABA), an animal model of AN.

Objectives: This study explores the impact of family dignity interventions (FDI) on palliative patients and their family caregivers through a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
Methods: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases for RCTs related to family-centered dignity interventions, with the search period extending from the inception of the databases up to July 2024. Statistical analyses were conducted using standardized mean difference (SMD) as the effect size with Stata 17.
