We analyzed surface-wave propagation that takes place at the boundary between a semi-infinite dielectric and a multilayered metamaterial, the latter with indefinite permittivity and cut normally to the layers. Known hyperbolization of the dispersion curve is discussed within distinct spectral regimes, including the role of the surrounding material. Hybridization of surface waves enable tighter confinement near the interface in comparison with pure-TM surface-plasmon polaritons. We demonstrate that the effective-medium approach deviates severely in practical implementations. By using the finite-element method, we predict the existence of long-range oblique surface waves.

Seagrass meadows are one of the most productive ecosystems of the world. Seagrass enhances biodiversity, sequesters CO and functions as a coastal protection measure by mitigating waves and enhancing sedimentation. However, populations are declining in many regions and natural recolonization of bare sediment beds is protracted and unlikely.

Surface electromyography () is useful for studying muscle function and controlling prosthetics, but crosstalk from nearby muscles often limits its effectiveness. High-density surface EMG () improves spatial resolution, allowing for the isolation of in the densely packed forearm muscles. This study assessed for localizing and evaluated the impact of spatial filters on crosstalk reduction.

Charge-density waves (CDWs) are correlated states of matter, in which the electronic density is modulated periodically due to electronic and phononic interactions. Often, CDW phases coexist with other correlated states, such as superconductivity, spin-density waves, or Mott insulators. Controlling CDW phases may, therefore, enable the manipulation of the energy landscape of these interacting states.

In this work, we have ultrasonically deposited Cu and Pd nanoparticles on BiS nanoparticles, prepared using an ultrasonication assisted hydrothermal method. We implemented intense ultrasonic waves bearing frequency of 20 kHz and power of 750 W at the acoustic wavelength of 100 mm to reduce Cu and Pd nanoparticles on the BiS surface. The XRD confirmed the formation of highly crystalline BiS nanoparticles with a pure orthorhombic phase and the deposition of copper (Cu) and palladium (Pd) nanoparticles was indicated by the strengthening and broadening of the peaks.

While waves, swells and currents are important drivers of the ocean, their specific influence on the biocolonization of marine surfaces has been little studied. The aim of this study was to determine how hydrodynamics influence the dynamics of microbial communities, metabolic production, macrofoulers and the associated vagile fauna. Using a field device simulating a shear stress gradient, a multi-scale characterization of attached communities (metabarcoding, LC-MS, biochemical tests, microscopy) was carried out for one month each season in Toulon Bay (northwestern Mediterranean).
