Article Abstract

Luminescence excitation spectra of active centers in bismuth-doped vitreous SiO(2) and vitreous GeO(2) optical fibers under the two-step excitation have been obtained for the first time. The results revealed only one bismuth-related IR active center formed in each of these fibers. The observed IR luminescence bands at 1430 nm (1650 nm) and 830 nm (950 nm), yellow-orange (red) band at 580 nm (655 nm), violet (blue) band at 420 nm (480 nm) belong to this bismuth-related active center in the vitreous SiO(2) (vitreous GeO(2)), correspondingly.

Secondary aluminum dross self-heating enhances hazardous waste vitrification.

Waste Manag

December 2024

School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Solid Waste Treatment and Recycling, Zhejiang Engineering Research Center of Non-ferrous Metal Waste Recycling, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang 310012, China. Electronic address:

This study demonstrates the potential of secondary aluminum dross (SAD) to enhance the vitrifying hazardous waste incineration fly ash (FA) and bottom slag (BS). Based on the CaO-SiO-AlO ternary phase diagram, a liquid phase can be achieved at relatively low temperatures by carefully adjusting the AlO content, particularly when the CaO to SiO ratio is around 0.66.

Silicon dioxide (SiO), commonly known as silica, is a naturally occurring mineral extracted from the Earth's crust. It is widely used in commercial products such as food, medicine, and dental ceramics. There are few studies on the health effects of pyrogenic and colloidal silica after ingestion.

Inorganic-organic hybrid biomaterials have been proposed for bone tissue repair, with improved mechanical flexibility compared with scaffolds fabricated from bioceramics. However, obtaining hybrids with osteoinductive properties equivalent to those of bioceramics is still a challenge. In this work, we present for the first time the synthesis of a class II hybrid modified with bioactive glass nanoparticles (nBGs) with osteoinductive properties.

Temperature Dependence of the Thermo-Optic Coefficient of SiO Glass.

Sensors (Basel)

June 2023

ADiT-LAB, Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo, Rua Escola Industrial e Comercial Nun'Álvares, 4900-347 Viana do Castelo, Portugal.

This paper presents a thorough analysis on the temperature dependence of the thermo-optic coefficient, d/d, of four bulk annealed pure-silica glass samples (type I-natural quartz: Infrasil 301; type II-quartz crystal powder: Heraeus Homosil; type III-synthetic vitreous silica: Corning 7980 and Suprasil 3001) from room temperature down to 0 K. The three/four term temperature dependent Sellmeier equations and respective coefficients were considered, which results from fitting to the raw data obtained by Leviton et al. The thermo-optic coefficient was extrapolated down to zero Kelvin.
