Objectives: Various animal models have been established and applied in hearing research. In the exploration of novel cochlear implant developments, mainly rodents have been used. Despite their important contribution to the understanding of auditory function, translation of experimental observations from rodents to humans is limited due to the size differences and genetic variability.

Hearing loss negatively impacts the well-being of millions of people worldwide. Systemic delivery of ototherapeutics has limited efficacy due to severe systemic side effects and the presence of the blood-labyrinth barrier that selectively limits or enables transfer of molecules between plasma and inner ear tissues and fluids. Local drug delivery into the middle and inner ear would be preferable for many newly emerging classes of drugs.

To discuss the techniques and repairing methods of various degree of compound tissue defects in the auriculotemporal region. Retrospective analysis was conducted on three cases of different repairing methods for huge compound tissue defects in different degrees in the auriculotemporal region after the resection of the malignant tumor or sinus tract due to repeated infection in our hospital. Following total removal of the tumors or sinus tract in all patients, we applied retroauricular lingual flap transfer repairing, latissimus dorsi flap free transfer repairing and vascular anastomosis, scalp tissue expansion in stage Ⅰ, then repairing the lesion with expanded scalp and filling the huge mastoid cavity with abdominal fat in stage Ⅱ, respectively, according to the characteristics of compound tissue defects in the auriculotemporal region.

Cochlear implants are highly efficient devices that can restore hearing in subjects with profound hearing loss. Due to improved speech perception outcomes, candidacy criteria have been expanded over the last few decades. This includes patients with substantial residual hearing that benefit from electrical and acoustical stimulation of the same ear, which makes hearing preservation during cochlear implantation an important issue.

Background: Patients treated with vemurafenib for metastatic melanoma often develop skin lesions similar to those observed after exposure to dioxin-like compounds. We previously called these lesions MADISH (metabolizing acquired dioxin-induced skin hamartoma) when analysing a case of acute dioxin poisoning.
Objective: We performed a clinical trial aimed at comparing the skin lesions observed under vemurafenib treatment with MADISH in order to bring to light a possible crosstalk between vemurafenib and dioxin pathways.
