Rationale: Contextual fear is evoked by re-exposing an animal to an environment that has been previously paired with an aversive or unpleasant stimulus. It can be assessed by freezing and cardiovascular changes such as increase in mean arterial pressure and heart rate. A marked increase in neuronal activity is associated with contextual fear conditioning, especially in limbic structures involved with defense reactions, such as the ventral portion of medial prefrontal cortex.
Objective: Given the fact that transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1 (TRPV1) receptors could be involved in the expression of defensive behavior, the present work tested the hypothesis that TRPV1 manipulation in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vMPFC) modulates the expression of contextual conditioned fear.
Methods: Male Wistar rats received bilateral microinjections into the vMPFC of the TRPV1 receptor antagonists capsazepine (1, 10, and 60 nmol/200 nL) or 6-iodonordihydrocapsaicin (3 nmol/200 nL), and the TRPV1 agonist capsaicin (1 nmol/200 nL) preceded by vehicle or 6-iodonordihydrocapsaicin before re-exposure to the experimental chamber for 10 min, 48 h after conditioning in two different protocols distinct by their aversiveness.
Results: Both antagonists reduced the freezing and cardiovascular responses in the high aversive protocol. Capsaicin caused an increase in fear-associated responses that could be blocked by 6-iodonordihydrocapsaicin.
Conclusions: Our results indicate that TRPV1 receptors located in the vMPFC have a tonic involvement in the modulation of the expression of contextual fear conditioning.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is marked by amyloid-β plaques and hyperphosphorylated tau neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), leading to cognitive decline and debilitating non-cognitive symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate compounds from four different classes in a short-term (7-day) study using transgenic tau mice to assess their ability to reduce non-cognitive symptoms. The best candidate was then evaluated for longer exposure to assess non-cognitive symptoms, cognition, and pathology.

Fear overgeneralization is a prevalent clinical symptom of anxiety disorders. Various research studies have demonstrated that attention plays a crucial role in fear generalization. Moreover, fear is not only generalized to the stimulus, but individuals may also exhibit a certain degree of fear generalization to the context.

Background/objectives: Rodents provide a useful translational model of fear- and anxiety-related behaviors. Previously stressed animals exhibit physiological and behavioral stress responses that parallel those observed in anxious humans. Patients diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) present with a spectrum of debilitating anxiety symptoms that result from exposure to one or more traumatic events, with individuals exposed to early adverse experiences and women having increased vulnerability for diagnoses; however, the mechanisms of this increased vulnerability remain unknown.

Background/objectives: Numerous studies have examined nursing students' academic dishonesty; however, there is still a gap in understanding the predictors of such behavior. This study aimed to identify personal (intrapersonal and interpersonal) and contextual factors predicting nursing students' dishonesty during clinical training.
Methods: A two-phase, prospective, predictive study was conducted at a nursing faculty in Croatia.
Background: Feelings of shame after interpersonal assault directly impact survivor well-being. Although the concept of trauma-related shame has been well defined and applied in psychology, the direct application to nursing care for victims of sexual assault is unclear.
Objective: The aim of this study was to perform an interdisciplinary concept analysis to clarify and synthesize the concept of trauma-related shame as it relates to interpersonal assault.
