Serum copper and zinc levels were measured in 20 normal healthy controls and 67 patients with tumours of head, neck and face region. Maximum cases in the present study were of oral malignancies (70.9% out of total malignant cases). Significant values of copper in both benign and malignant conditions, before and after treatment were observed (P less than 0.01). Serum zinc was also significantly depressed (before treatment) in all cancer cases (P less than 0.01) but was not significant in benign conditions (P greater than 0.05) However, it was significant in all cases (P less than 0.01) after treatment. Further analysis of the data showed that Cu/Zn ratios were increased in all the cases (before treatment) and was either coming near to normal limits or were maintained at post therapy levels. In our study 5 patients showed recurrence after complete treatment. The alterations in copper, zinc and Cu/Zn ratio were related to the stage of the disease. Regular monitoring of Cu/Zn ratio was done at three weeks interval for 6 months suggesting the Cu/Zn ratio is of diagnostic and prognostic value. The Cu/Zn ratio was found to be a reliable parameter rather than individual levels of and or Cu and Zn.

The content of 39 metals and metalloids (MMs) in submicron road dust (PM fraction) was studied in the traffic zone, residential courtyards with parking lots, and on pedestrian roads in parks in Moscow. The geochemical profiles of PM vary slightly between different types of roads and courtyards but differ significantly from those in parks. In Moscow, compared to other cities worldwide, submicron road dust contains less As, Sb, Mo, Cr, Cd, Sn, Tl, Ca, Rb, La, Y, U, but more Cu, Zn, Co, Fe, Mn, Ti, Zr, Al, V.

Auxetic materials hold tremendous potential for many advanced applications, but candidates are quite scarce, especially at two dimensions. Here, we focus on two-dimensional (2D) metal dichalcogenides and dihalides with the chemical formula MX2 by screening structures sharing the P4̄m2 space group among 330 MX2 compounds from the computational 2D materials database. Via high-throughput first-principles computations, 25 stable MX2 (M = Mg, Ca, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ge, Cd, Sn; X = F, Cl, Br, I, O, S, Se) systems with in-plane negative Poisson's ratios (NPRs) are successfully identified.

This study examined the impact of long-term manure organic fertilizer application (3, 8, 13, 18, and 22 years) on soil physicochemical properties, heavy metal (HM) accumulation, and microbial communities. Long-term manure application markedly elevated nutrient levels such as available N, P and K, and organic matter content in surface and soil profile. Total and DTPA-HM content in different vertical profiles increased with the application time.
