In order to characterize hyperglycemic peptides from the sinus gland of the lobster, Homarus americanus, a bioassay was developed with juvenile H. gammarus. This assay was used for determining the hyperglycemic activity of peptides perified by reversed-phase high-performance liquid-chromatography, from acidic extracts of sinus gland. The major peptides are eluted in three sets of two peptides. Among them, two pairs show hyperglycemic activity when assayed on lobster; when assayed on crayfish, three peptides are active. The less hydrophobic pair consists of basic peptides (pI: 8.7), with a MW of 8633 Da., determined by fast-atom bombardment mass spectrometry. The most hydrophobic pair consists of acid peptides (pI: 5.0), with a MW of 8577 Da. Amino acid composition of the hyperglycemic peptides shows strong homologies within each pair.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia is characterized by hypophosphatemia and fragility fractures caused by fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23)-producing tumors. We report a case of tumor-induced osteomalacia in which the tumor location could be determined by gallium 68 (Ga)-DOTATOC positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT). A 74-year-old woman had recurrent fractures and bone pain.

Purpose: Pituitary adenomas, despite their histologically benign nature, can severely impact patients' quality of life due to hormone hypersecretion. Invasion of the medial wall of the cavernous sinus (MWCS) by these tumors complicates surgical outcomes, lowering biochemical remission rates and increasing recurrence. The sphenoidal sinus septum is one of the most important landmarks during endonasal endoscopic transsphe-noidal operations. During routine coronal sectioning of the face, we found a variant Y-shaped septum in the sphenoidal sinus of a female cadaver. This unusual septum was found between two sections (anterior and posterior sections) and located inferior to the pituitary gland.
