A porous bioactive titania coating on biomedical β titanium alloy was prepared by pre-anodization followed by micro arc oxidation technology. The effects of pre-anodization on the phase constituent, morphology and electrochemical corrosion behavior of the microarc oxidation coating were investigated. The results show that pre-anodization has less influence on the phase constituent and the surface morphology of the microarc oxidation coating, but improves the inner layer density of the microarc oxidation coating. The decrease of plasma discharge strength due to the presence of the pre-anodized oxide film contributes to the formation of the compact inner layer. The pre-anodized microarc oxidation coating effectively inhibits the penetration of the electrolyte in 0.9% NaCl solution and thus increases the corrosion resistance of the coated titanium alloy in physiological solution.

Introduction: Chronic inflammation leading to implant failure present major challenges in orthopedics, dentistry, and reconstructive surgery. Titanium alloys, while widely used, often provoke inflammatory complications. Zinc-doped calcium phosphate (CaP) coatings offer potential to enhance implant integration by improving corrosion resistance, bioactivity, and immunocompatibility.

Sodium tungstate (NaWO) was filled into the micropores and onto the surface of a magnesium alloy microarc oxidation (MAO) coating by means of vacuum impregnation. Subsequently, the coating was sealed through silane treatment to synergistically boost its corrosion resistance. The phase composition of the coating was inspected using XRD.

Metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) hydrogen sensors offer advantages, such as high sensitivity and fast response, but their challenges remain in achieving low-cost fabrication and stable operation at room temperature. This study investigates Nb-doped TiO (NTO) thin films prepared via a one-step micro-arc oxidation (MAO) with the addition of NbO nanoparticles into the electrolyte for room-temperature hydrogen sensing. The characterization results revealed that the incorporation of NbO altered the film's morphology and phase composition, increasing the Nb content and forming a homogeneous composite thin film.

Hydroxyapatite (HAP) nano-coatings on titanium alloys (for example, Ti6Al4V) have been used for prosthetic orthopedic implants in recent decades due to their osseointegration, bioactivity, and biocompatibility. HAP is brittle with low mechanical strength and poor adhesion on metallic surfaces, which limits its durability and bioactivity. Surface modification techniques have alleviated the imperfection of biomaterials by coating the substrate.
