1. This study was designed to examine the effects of acipimox 250 mg three times daily and cholestyramine 4 g three times daily on plasma lipids and lipoproteins in 28 hypercholesterolaemic individuals in a prospective double-blind placebo controlled parallel group fashion. 2. Combined treatment with the two agents produced a mean reduction of 27% in plasma total cholesterol and a 32% fall in LDL cholesterol. Plasma triglyceride was reduced by 13% due to a 38% decrement in VLDL cholesterol. 3. In comparison treatment with cholestyramine alone resulted in a 12% fall in plasma cholesterol and a 15% fall in LDL cholesterol. In this group triglycerides and VLDL showed no significant change. 4. Studies of HDL subfraction mass showed that the addition of acipimox to resin therapy produced a mean increment of 45% in HDL2. 5. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of such a well tolerated low dosage combination therapy.

Analyzing the channels of information dissemination: Investigating abrupt transitions in resource investment.

Investment in resources is essential for facilitating information dissemination in real-world contexts, and comprehending the influence of resource allocation on information dissemination is, thus, crucial for the efficacy of collaborative networks. Nonetheless, current studies on information dissemination frequently fail to clarify the complex interplay between information distribution and resources in network contexts. In this work, we establish a resource-based information dissemination model to identify the complex interplay by examining the propagation threshold and equilibriums.

Atypical lipomatous tumors/well-differentiated liposarcomas (ALT/WDLPS) are low-grade, slow-growing, and locally aggressive tumors. We investigated clinical outcomes and recurrence factors for ALT/WDLPS of the extremities. This is retrospective study across three institutions which included patients who underwent surgery for ALT/WDLPS from 2001 to 2019.

This prospective, observational cohort study compares the clinical and radiographic outcomes of the modified Weaver and Dunn (WD) technique with the newer, anatomical double-button plus tendon allograft technique (DB), and the suture anchor repair plus tendon allograft (SA). The study cohort includes 53 patients, who underwent surgery for acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocation Rockwood type 3, 4 and 5. Patient-reported outcome scores and clinical results, including Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH), the Subjective Shoulder Value (SSV), the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the Constant score (CS) results as well as loss of reduction rates on plain radiographs were compared.

Exploring electronic states in actinide compounds is a critical aspect of nuclear science. However, considering relativistic effects and electron correlation in theoretical calculations poses a complex challenge. To tackle this, we developed the CASPT2/RASPT2 program along with the DIRAC program, enabling calculations of electron correlation methods using multiconfigurational perturbation theory with various relativistic Hamiltonians.

Objective: In times of societal crises, it is pivotal to understand and share others' feelings. Yet, the role of empathy in fostering prosocial responses during societal crises has not gained enough attention. Our study uses the onset of Russia's war on Ukraine to examine three key questions: (1) Is empathy related to attitudes toward pro-refugee policies? (2) Does empathy correlate with a higher tolerance for diverse opinions on refugee policies? (3) Is empathy linked to perceived interpersonal closeness toward social in- and outgroups, including refugees?

Methods And Results: Using observational data from online surveys conducted with a largely representative quota sample from Germany (N = 1199-1631) during the initial months of the war, we found that empathy was associated with significantly higher support of pro-refugee policies, driven primarily by empathic concern.
