Blood medium-mass molecules (MMM) concentrations were measured in 68 patients with phlegmons of the face and neck, aged 24 to 65. The patients were divided into 3 groups with variously manifesting symptoms of endogenous intoxication. MMM concentration was found to be increasing with the growth of intoxication of the body; their highest concentration was detected in vast putrefactive necrotic phlegmons induced by anaerobic infection and accompanied by dysfunction of a number of vital organs responsible for gas exchange, detoxication, hemodynamics, excretion, etc. Regular changes in MMM levels were revealed, reflecting the condition severity, pattern, and manifestation of endogenous intoxication. Blood MMM levels may be regarded as an objective characteristic of endotoxemia severity in patients with phlegmons of the face and neck.

Background: Red breast syndrome (RBS) has been noted in past literature as a possible complication of implant-based breast reconstruction (IBBR) with the use of acellular dermal matrices (ADMs). Since its first appearance in 2009, RBS has drawn growing medical attention with reported incidence ranging from 7%-9%. There has been a noted decrease in the emergence of RBS despite its inclusion among the analyzed complications in a number of studies.

Objective: The recent development of xylazine adulteration of the illicit opiate supply has been associated with necrotic extremity wounds of unclear pathogenesis. This study sought to understand the prevalence and characteristics of delusional infestation (DI) among patients with opiate use disorders who also carried a diagnosis of cellulitis.
Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed in one health system to identify patients with opiate use disorder and cellulitis over the past three years who also described symptoms of DI.

Background: Intravenous (IV) steroids are commonly used to treat acute flares of Crohn's disease (CD). However, it is unclear if they are beneficial in the setting of uncomplicated small bowel obstruction (SBO). We sought to examine if IV steroid administration improved short-term outcomes in patients with CD hospitalized for acute, uncomplicated SBO across three New York City hospital systems.
