Purpose: To evaluate the influence of ultrasound guidance during intrauterine insemination (IUI) on pregnancy rates (PRs). The impacts of two different groups of providers were also investigated.

Methods: Study population consisted of 387 gonadotropin stimulated IUI cycles performed for unexplained infertility. The patients were randomized into two groups as ultrasound-guided IUI (n = 180) and classical IUI (n = 207). Pregnancy rates were compared. Two groups were further analyzed based on the experience of the provider (senior versus junior subgroups) who performed IUI.

Results: Pregnancy rates were higher in the ultrasound-guided IUI group (17.2%) compared to the classical IUI (10.1 %) (p = 0.042). In further analysis based on the experience of the provider; in the classical IUI group, PRs were similar for both subgroups, however, in the ultrasound-guided group it was higher when IUI was performed by a senior physician (21.7 versus 9.2%, p = 0.033). Logistic regression revealed that the experience of the provider was the independent variable for improved PRs.

Conclusions: Ultrasound guidance improves PRs only when a senior provider performs the IUI procedure. It seems that the experience of the provider physician is one of the determinants of IUI success.

Association between antinuclear antibodies status and preterm birth in Japanese pregnant women: a prospective cohort study from Adjunct Study of the Japan Environment and Children's Study.

Background: Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) are important biomarkers for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases; however, the general population also tests positive at a low frequency, especially in women. Although the effects of various autoimmune diseases on pregnancy outcomes have been studied, the association of ANA with pregnancy outcomes in healthy individuals is unclear. Preterm birth (PTB), a major cause of neonatal death or long-term health problems, is a complex condition with a multifactorial etiology, and the underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) is defined as feeding infants only breast milk of the mother or a wet nurse for the first six months, without additional food or liquids except the oral rehydration solution or drops/syrups of vitamins, minerals or medicines. The working status of women in developed countries adversely affects the EBF rates, which calls for an assessment in rapidly developing countries like India. Therefore, the primary aim of the present study is to determine the prevalence of EBF using the data from the National Family Health Surveys (NFHS 3, 4, 5) conducted between 2005 and 06, 2015-16 and 2019-21 to estimate the likelihood EBF according to mothers' employment status.

Background: We aim to identify risk factors contributing to extended rehospitalizations in patients diagnosed with postpartum endometritis requiring intravenous antibiotics.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study examined postpartum endometritis patients readmitted for treatment from 2014 to 2022, comparing short (≤ 48 h) and prolonged hospitalization (> 48 h). Data included patient demographics, medical history, presentation parameters, vaginal examination findings, sonographic data, laboratory results, and details of the current labor to create a scoring system predicting prolonged hospitalization risk.

Background: Despite the integration of iron supplementation into routine antenatal care programs as a nutritional intervention to prevent anemia in pregnant women, the use of this supplement for the recommended duration remains low in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Evidence on maternal compliance with iron supplementation at the SSA level is lacking and most of the previous studies have been limited to specific geographic areas. Therefore, the current study used large population survey data from 35 SSA countries to estimate the pooled prevalence of non-adherence and its determinants.

Background: Metabolic bariatric surgery is the most effective therapy for severe obesity, which affects the health of millions, most of whom are women of child-bearing age. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) are the most common bariatric procedures and are associated with durable weight loss and comorbidity resolution. Although obstetric outcomes broadly improve, the safety profile comparing the impact of RYGB and SG on obstetric outcomes is underexplored.
