Aim: Tubal ectopic pregnancy (tEP) must be diagnosed as early as possible because it is one of the leading causes of pregnancy-related death in the first trimester. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum total creatine kinase (CK) and its isoforms in diagnosis of tEP.
Methods: The study included 32 tEP cases, and gestational age-matched intrauterine (IU) abortion and normal pregnancy cases (n = 31 each). Serum total CK and CK-MB fraction were measured by the principle of spectrophotometry and CK-MM fraction was calculated from the above parameters. Serum β-hCG was measured using chemiluminescent immunoassay. All study parameters were measured at the time of presentation.
Results: Serum β-hCG levels were significantly low in patients with both tEP and IU abortion than normal pregnancy. Women with tEP had higher concentrations of total CK, CK-MM and lower concentrations of CK-MB% compared to both gestational age-matched IU pregnancy controls and IU abortion. Receiver-operator characteristic analysis revealed that the optimal cut-off for total CK, CK-MM and CPK-MB% as predictors of ruptured EP were 147 IU/L, 135 IU/L and 10%, respectively, with the former two having higher specificity, and latter high sensitivity.
Conclusion: Estimation of CK and its CK isoenzyme fractions can aid in quick and accurate diagnosis of tEP.

During the harvest of Ilex paraguariensis, approximately 2-5 tons per hectare of thick stems are left on the soil surface. The outer portion of these stems, referred to as the coproduct, constitutes 30% of the total residue mass. Although this coproduct has been partially characterized in terms of its phytochemical profile, its technological applications remain unexplored.

Over the last decades, resistance training (RT) has experienced a surge in popularity, and compelling evidence underpins its beneficial effects on health, well-being, and performance. However, sports and exercise research findings may translate poorly into practice. This study investigated the knowledge of Austrian gym-goers regarding common myths and truths in RT.

Background: Creatine has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory effects. However, its impact on tumors remains uncertain.
Methods: This study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007 to 2018 to investigate the relationship between dietary creatine intake and cancer in American adults.

Objectives: To assess topographical patterns of metabolic abnormalities in the cerebrum of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and their relationship to clinical disability using rapid echo-less 3D-MR spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) at 7T.
Materials And Methods: This study included 26 MS patients (13 women; median age 34) and 13 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (7 women; median age 33). Metabolic maps were obtained using echo-less 3D-MRSI at 7T with a 64 × 64 × 33 matrix and a nominal voxel size of 3.

Purpose: To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of creatine phosphate sodium in the treatment of viral myocarditis, and to provide guidance for its clinical treatment.
Methods: We conducted a search of The Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMbase, and Web of Science databases to retrieve randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the use of creatine phosphate sodium (CPS) in the treatment of viral myocarditis. The search was conducted up to April 2024.
