Online monitoring of propofol concentrations in exhaled breath.

Heliyon

December 2024

Department of Anesthesiology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Propofol, a widely used intravenous anesthetic agent, requires accurate monitoring to ensure therapeutic efficacy and prevent oversedation. Recent developments in modern analytical instrumentation have led to significant breakthroughs in on-line analysis of exhaled breath. This review discusses several sophisticated analytical methods that have been explored for noninvasive, real-time monitoring of propofol concentrations, including proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry, selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry, ion mobility spectrometry, and gas chromatography coupled to surface acoustic wave sensors.

A versatile and automatic on-line screening method: Transverse diffusion of laminar flow profiles-based capillary electrophoresis for exploring PTP1B inhibitors in natural products.

J Chromatogr A

December 2024

KU Leuven - University of Leuven, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, O&N2, PB 923, Herestraat 49 3000 Leuven, Belgium. Electronic address:

Natural products (NPs) play an important role in drug discovery and drug development due to their diverse chemical properties and biological activities. In the present work, an on-line capillary electrophoresis (CE) method was developed and applied to screen protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) inhibitors in NPs. As a generic technique, transverse diffusion of laminar flow profiles (TDLFP) was utilized to mix all reactants in the capillary for on-line enzymatic reaction.

Development and validation of a quantification method for direct oral anticoagulants from capillary blood using volumetric absorptive microsampling and online SPE-LC-MS.

J Chromatogr B Analyt Technol Biomed Life Sci

January 2025

Department of Pharmaceutical and Medical Chemistry, Clinical Pharmacy, University of Muenster, Muenster, Germany. Electronic address:

The number of prescriptions for new direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) apixaban, edoxaban, rivaroxaban and dabigatran has increased exponentially in recent years, increasingly replacing the old gold standard, vitamin-K-antagonists. Due to their wide therapeutic range, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is not required, although it has been proven that this could significantly reduce side effects. In order to develop a cost-efficient and simple method for the simultaneous detection of the DOACs and phenprocoumon, a new technology for sample preparation from capillary blood in the ambulant sector named VAMS® was integrated and an LC-MS detector with on-line solid phase extraction (SPE) applying a Turboflow HTLC Cyclone 1.

A Low-Cost Microfluidic Device For the On-Line Counting of Microparticle/Bacteria.

Electrophoresis

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Multiphase Flow in Power Engineering, Xi'an JiaoTong University, Xi'an, People's Republic of China.

On-line counting of the microparticle/bacteria in the liquid medium has great potential in the food safety and biomedical fields. A new low-cost microfluidic device is proposed for the on-line counting of the microparticles/bacteria in the liquid medium. The gradually contracted microchannel and the viscoelastic fluid are combined to achieve the efficient elastic focusing of the particle/bacteria, which significantly improves the counting accuracy by aligning all particles/bacteria in a single position at the center of the microchannel.

Asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation for comprehensive characterization of hetero-aggregates made of nano-silver and extracellular polymeric substances.

J Chromatogr A

January 2025

University of Geneva, Faculty of Sciences, Department F.-A. Forel for Environmental and Aquatic Sciences, Environemntal Biogeochemistry and Ecotoxicology, Bvd Carl-Vogt 66, 1211 Geneva Switzerland. Electronic address:

The present study explores the capability of asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) coupled online with diode array (DAD), fluorescence detectors (FLD), multi-angle light scattering (MALS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) to characterize silver nanoparticles (nAg) hetero-aggregates formed with diatoms derived extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). The content of EPS varied from 10.5 to 105 mgC L and nAg were dispersed at 4 mg L in a freshwater medium.
