Objective: Several cases of Fanconi syndrome (FS), a severe form of nephrotoxicity, have been reported in patients with HIV on tenofovir-containing antiretroviral therapy. A systematic review of the published literature on tenofovir-related FS in patients with HIV was conducted.
Data Sources: PubMed and Embase were queried to identify articles in English published between January 2005 and June 2023, reporting tenofovir-related FS in adults with HIV.

Hypokalemic periodic paralysis (HPP) is a neuromuscular disorder associated with muscular dysfunction caused by hypokalemia. There are various causes of HPPs and rarely, HPP appears to be relevant to tenofovir or glucocorticoid treatment. There have been several case reports of tenofovir-related nephrotoxicity or tenofovir-induced HPP.

Background: Tenofovir (TDF) has been associated with renal function deterioration, but local data regarding the incidence and risk factors for this adverse event were lacking.
Objectives: To determine the incidence of nephrotoxicity in HIV-infected patients on tenofovir-based regimens and to evaluate risk factors involved in tenofovir-associated renal function decline.
Methods: This is a single-centre retrospective cohort study of 440 HIV-infected adults who were started on tenofovirbased antiretroviral regimens.

Objectives: Men who have sex with men are at risk of tenofovir nephrotoxicity due to its wide use in both treatment and prophylaxis for human immunodeficiency virus infection, but little is known about the urinary biomarkers of early renal dysfunction in this population. This study aims to identify useful biomarkers of early renal dysfunction among human immunodeficiency virus-infected men who have sex with men exposed to tenofovir.
Methods: In a cross-sectional study urinary alpha1-microglobulin, beta2-microglobulin, N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase and albumin were measured and expressed as the ratio-to-creatinine in 239 human immunodeficiency virus-infected men who have sex with men who were treatment naïve or receiving antiretroviral therapy with tenofovir-containing or non-tenofovir-containing regimens.

Background: The number of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients has increased significantly, although the number of deaths due to HIV and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) has dramatically reduced. Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has increased not only survival but also the risk of deaths caused by other diseases or by long-term side effects of these drugs.
Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the nephrotoxicity of one of the most common anti-retroviral drugs, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF).
